Re: help to decide what to do with this ?
I'm kinda surprised no-one asked this yet, but is it a real Epi?
Sorry, the headstock, tuners, logo, knobs, and the way the neck pup-ring is squished in there don't look right to me at all. The pick guard brace doesn't look right, either. However, I LOVE that top! If you're happy with the git, (I hope you didn't pay too much for it) replace the pups & white plastic. Perhaps strip & refinish the top in a lighter color to show off that top!

Sell it and buy a used Epi LP that you like better. Or rebuild the body altogether!

Re: help to decide what to do with this ?
You might want to think about a solid color. I think one of the reasons they went with
a "dark burst" is because they need to hide that center seam as much as possible. If you got with a lighter burst, it may become more noticeable that the center seam is actually shifted pretty far to the right side of the top. Look at the bridge/stop tail as it lines up to see what I'm talking about. Then again, it's your guitar and you can do whatever you want to with it. Outside of people that "into guitars", no one else will probably ever notice something like that. |

Re: help to decide what to do with this ?
That looks like a bit like a Hohner rather than an Epi. If you want to see what I mean do a Google Image search for Hohner LX 250 or Hohner Rockwood Les Paul.
As for the finish you could always try Fablon ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamesdavies/6080942762/ |

Re: help to decide what to do with this ?
What ever you decide to do I have to warn you............removing UV Cured Poly is a SOB to do. Hope you have a heat gun because that's about the only thing next to sanding ( and who wants to sand ) the finish off. There is no commercial chemical stripper out there that will soften and remove the Poly.

Well you gotta give more ideas of what you like before everybody else weighs in with theirs.
One man's trash is another man's treasure. Were it left up to me, I think every guitar built should be an Iced Tea Burst or a copy of the cover on the BOTB. |

Re: help to decide what to do with this ?
I think it was beatiful as it was.. Perhaps changing the white to black would have sufficed! Now that it is stripped down, how about something different to set it apart from the rest..
Clear Black.. 12 inch deep shine, clear grain showing in the middle burst to black. Back and sides black. Black hardware.. Actually I saw Rayne at MHD once had some Gibson type covers that were a dark (titanium) looking covers.. Maybe I am imagining that but it would be pretty cool. Kindof a classy goth look.. (oximoronic perhaps but you get the idea)
