It WILL however, be a VERY nice guitar

I have had some conversations about this instrument with Greg from BCR.

As you well may know, he is pretty much the MLP Junior king. He sure has enough of them.

I think we have isolated the single most important factor that makes his 50s Jr's sound so good.

Is it the wood? No. is it the lightweight wraparound ? No.

Could it be perhaps the pickup????? No.

It is the fact that the headstocks have been broken and repaired.

It is common knowledge that a glued up break, is stronger than before, if repaired correctly.

So...................we are going to break the headstock and repair it on this build.

Kinda taking Relicing to a new level. Although I know the guitar is not going to be reliced. Just a figure of speech.......

Dude, it might be 'just a guitar' but from this side of the pond/fence/screen its pretty exciting!

I would love to be able to do what you do with bits of old wood and some glue thats for sure

In fact i've got a pretty old piece of mahogany that used to be a bar top in the garage, i might look for some LP drawings online...see its inspired someone already

i already have the headstock break and repair done on my classic, and yes it does sound better now!

that fingerboard is SWEEEEET!!!!

Is it possible to simulate a repair without actually breaking the headstock? For example, what if you added splints to the neck, or other things you would do a broken headstock after the break was glued back together? So with an unbroken headstock, pretend that you just glued a break back together, and proceed as usual with the "repair"?

It has something to do with the vibrational wavelengths that are generated at the point of impact.

The cellular memory of the wood retains that, and when it is repaired, it has memory of the sound it made when it snapped.

It's kind of like the phenomena of your amp sounding it's best 2 seconds before it blows up.

Ok, moving on................we have to build it before we bust it.

I had my machine shop make this nifty fingerboard radiusing jig.

After I rough sand a radius on the belt sander, I double stick tape the fingerboard into my jig and sand away!

Here is the fingerboard radiused with 80 grit. BTW, it's a 12 inch radius.

The part of the quote I bolded has some truth....I colud smell something burning - smelled like electronics and hair - while I was playing my strat (pre - lea paul) through my Traynor bass mate so I opened it up and saw a hait on one of the power tube pins so I grabbed it - big mistake - I got a shock....big time but as I clenched up on the guitar (an E root 5th bar chord on the A string 7th fret and d string 9th) the tone was phenomenal the best sound I had ever heard and I've never heard it since.....there was some sort of unbiased voltage sag something about to fail sound there - alas I don't like the heart palpetations that can be caused by this......but I'll always strive for that tone...I will know it when I hear it....

as for the raffle guitar....If I had a wood fetish I would have shorted out my keyboad....man that thing is going to have some character......I think whoever wins it will be the luckiest SOB ever and I secretly (not really a secret) hope I win.

the first time ive heard this i thought "pshhh this is jibberish, cant be" but ive been hearing it from a lot of players/luthiers.
one of my favorite guitarists (billy howerdel) had an early 90s lp classic with a broken head stock and said " my favorite guitar is my classic, it had a badly broken headstock that was repaired and set at a slightly different angle and it is the best sounding and playing guitar i have ever touched." this is coming from a guy that has tech'd for many huge bands so he knows his guitars
