Re: "The official MLP Rist Guitars build thread"

Well since I made the claim that the guitar is strung up, I better back it up with some pics.

On a side note, what a pathetic life I have, or lack of, it is 2:09 AM and I am still in the shop working.

This year I will have no Christmas.

Even though the holiday exists, it won't for me. I wont be celebrating anything this year except for work.
Amber will be celebrating with her family, and I will be locked in the shop working,

Too much work, not enough time nor money, and there is certainly not enough love in the world.........

Oh well, excuse my early morning rant.

That being said. Here are the pics leading up to the guitar being strung up.

Ok, moving on.

The neck is out of clamps and I do a quick rough carve. I carve necks in stages to let the wood acclimate and ease into their new role in the world.

I'm now getting ready for strings

I have marked out the locations for the bridge and tailpiece, and am ready to drill.

Let's drill some holes. I use a bradpoint with a stopping collar and a drill press.

Now we install the T/P

It is stainless steel mounted right to the body in brass anchors. I must say these things sustain. and they look cool

Sorry it's not a good picture.

Now lets slap some tuners on this thing.

That's all for this post.

Until the holidays are over, I'll be signing off as Grinch

Re: "The official MLP Rist Guitars build thread"

Beautiful, I got to watch my number one go from a planks to a beauty and this thread brings me back, I even got to do the final sanding on the neck to have her fit my hand like a glove.

Really glad you pushed the date back as I dont have a dime to spare at the moment, but hopefully once the holidays are done I'll be able to buy 20 tix or so.

And thank you so much for doing this, every bit from the build logs to the actual concept of the idea, its a wonderful gift to the comminuity as well as all the knowledge you've shared with all of us and I very much appriciate it.

Re: "The official MLP Rist Guitars build thread"

Part 2 of no life.

I've wired up some temporary pots and a jack in the hole where the boost switch will go.

in this next photo you may notice the absence of bridge studs

To ensure perfect bridge placement I put the bridge on shims and actually intonate it before I commit to drilling holes.

Its a little trick I learned from MAX with doing LP replicas. With the small width of an ABR1 you have little room for error,

I carry on the tradition of doing it this way.

Here is a random stupid pic of the temporary wiring,

Here is a heel shot

here is a shot of the belly cut

And last here is a glamor shot of her in all her naked glory.

Well folks, it's 3 am. I must be out of my mind. I'm going to bed,
goodnight all,
Grinch

Man, I'm lov'n this guitar more and more!
I'm also very greatful for all the helpful building tips, like intonating before committing to drilling your holes for the bridge ... genius!
I really like the "Rist" tailpiece too!

What a great build!

Re: "The official MLP Rist Guitars build thread"

On a brighter note. I love playing this thing, the notes ring like crazy, even acoustically it is loud, and with the donor pickup installed, she has that p90 sweetness and growl.

I cannot wait till the real pickups arrives.

I am going to see if I can pull off a youtube video, even though I have no idea how to do video stuff and have no camera.

That Rist tailpiece is the shiz.

Anyone who would pass on that for a wrap is out of their mind.

This guitar gets more amazing with every post, Roman - err, Mr. Grinch.

Well, I officially (in my unofficial capacity as a general capacitor) absolve you of working for free, unless you really want to work for free and in that case, have at it. However, If work gets to be too much work, take ten and jam out on that thing, it looks ubersweet!, anyone know if there's another way to pay besides paypal? I'd like to buy 20 or so tix but the wife is uberparanoid about putting our credit info on teh internets and going behind her back is out of the question.

Roman, that tailpiece is sick!

We're all lucky to have such generous people like you guys that are putting blood and sweat into this guitar for very little tangible payoff.

Try to have a merry Christmas, even though you'll be working through
