Help with epi mod

I own a epi les paul standard and i want to get a little more tone out of it so im thinking about adding a third pickup will the epi structure support this and can a luthier do it for me.

I'm confused as to why you think adding a third pickup is going to help you "get a little more tone" out of your guitar.
