57 Custom replica Build
Hey guys, so yeah as I stated before, it's my dream guitar and I'm building this one for myself!!
![]() I started gathering the wood, parts and information needed and as soon as I finish up the Walnut DC, I'll get started on her. Later for now.

Re: 57 Custom replica Build
I thought I was the only one that wanted a replica 50's custom! I can't tell you how many people I've begged (and bribed!) to build me one.... I can't wait to see how great yours turns out! May just make me have to try it myself

I also want a "properly built" 57 Custom. I think I will build one right after finishing my two current builds (a 56 burst and a 355). I'll be definitely following this thread !! |

Re: 57 Custom replica Build
I have plans for a Custom but I'm not sure of their accuracy. I'll have to get them printed out and compare them to the 59' plans I have. I would think the body would be the same, maybe a bit thicker.
The neck would differ, I'm thinking it would be super chunky. Still gathering info so I can't assume anything yet.It may sound strange but, finding the info and gathering the parts, has always been my favorite part of the builds.

Re: 57 Custom replica Build
Finding an overlay for a Custom with the 50's logo may prove to be difficult.
All I'm finding is the 60's & 70's Norlin style. |

Re: 57 Custom replica Build
I'm totally gassin' to see this. I have my dream LP, which is my '05 Custom Shop Slash sig, but I've always thought Customs were gorgeous - especially black with gold hardware...
Can't wait to see this progress. |

Re: 57 Custom replica Build
Awesome. This should be great, seeing as all of your other builds are top-notch.

Width .106" (2.69mm) Crown .036" (.91mm) STEWMAC.COM : Wide Fretwire BTW, the wood for the body arrived today, I'm using a pre fabbed neck to save time on this one.(also arrived today) My necks take me about a couple of weeks to make, due to the fact I don't get to work on my projects as much as I would like to. I have two small boys, both under the age of 10. and they take up most of my time. Them, and work that is...I got the plans printed out tobay. They're close but.....i will have to modify them to keep the build as close to the 57 as I can. Pickups came yesterday, I'm using GFS pros. If they suck.....the'll get replaced but, I wanted to give them a try. Let's hope they sound as good as their writeup. ![]() GFS professional Series Alnico V Humbucker Black Case Bridge Pickup GFS professional Series Alnico II Humbucker Black Case Neck Pickup |

Re: 57 Custom replica Build
Started making new templates today. I scored about 100sq. feet of 1/4" smoke gray polycarbonate and I plan on putting it to good use.
