Help with wraparound stud placement?

I bought a Gibson 24-3/4" Scale Fingerboard (compensated and based on a true scale of 24 9/16) from stew mac for a LP Special I am building. I would like to get the stud placement for the wraparound bridge right on the first try so any help would be appreciated.

I entered 24 9/16 (24.5625) in stewmacs Fret position calculator to get the bridge placement and I get this result

[24.623" (±0.030") from nut to center of mounting studs.]

Does this mean 24.593" for the bottom stud and 24.653" for the top?

Anyone else have any experience with this? Am I on the right track?

Thanks for any help!

Re: Help with wraparound stud placement?

Bump

I'm bumping this because this is the exact question I was going to ask. I always try to search the forum before posting anything but I'm kind of in the same boat as this guy.

I have the Catto and Stew Mac plans which are slightly different when it comes to bridge placement. Could I just put it where the Catto plans say? I want to to have this right.... Harder with a wraparound cause there doesn't seem to be an easy way to put it on shims and string before drilling the holes.

i have never had any hands on experience with this but i think the (±0.030") just means that you have to be within .030" of 24.623". that is the tolerance you have to work with. (thats what it means when you read prints in a machine shop) you can also measure from the nut to the center of the 12th fret and take that measurement and double it to get the length from the nut to the bridge. (i think?) probably should wait till someone else besides a 19 year old kid replies before you start drilling any holes haha

i thought i saw someone showing a tip on how to install these somewhere in the forum. no clue where though...

Re: Help with wraparound stud placement?

verify which gibson scale fretboard it is-if its from stew mac. Maybe they've standardized it now?

Actually I'd like to see a standardized explanation of post placement. Some say an extra 2-3mm on treble side and 6mm on bass. or 2/16ths and 5/16ths.
or 3/16ths on bass side.

As pointed out-measure edge of nut to middle of 12th fret, double that to centre of posts. add the extra measurements for compensation. But since you are dealing with a wrap around and an already compensated figure...I'm confused now too. well glad I could help anybody else?

God I love 25in scale

Re: Help with wraparound stud placement?

This is one of those occasions where the StewMac calc. does not help the same way. IF you are using a pre-compensated wraparound, then the posts are not adjusted. If you did not get instructions with the part, then do the "Rist Special" and temporarily install with shims starting with the break point at your scale. Personally I would have gone with 24.625 which is the more common- but arguably the 9/16 will have less tension on the action and slightly "softer" tone.

I I were doing this by measurement, I would set the centerpunch for drilling the bushings dead on and no backwards slant,ASSUMING the maker built that in. Ballpark on an acoustic saddle is +1/8th" at the center.EDIT!! OK- went to SM-for a pre comp at 24 9/16 both posts the same at the 24.653. The comments are alerting to adjustable wrappers. Call Stew Mac-they will tell you for sure and not treat you like an idiot.

I am going googling---what brand? ole'lefty
