neck break?
Hi,
I'm a newbie here so any advice greatfully received... I've just taken delivery of a 1984 Greco Les Paul and the headstock seems to have suffered some damage in transit... there's a piece of paint flaked off behind the headstock and some cracks running from either side of the nut; on the treble side towards the body and on the bass side towards the body and up towards the headstock and to the piece that's flaked off - it's difficult to tell if they're just in the lacquer or if the wood itself has been affected... can anyone tell me from the photos if the neck itself has been damaged / weakened or if it's purely cosmetic and in the lacquer? thanks in advance, Chris |

Re: neck break?
Sorry to tell you this, but there is no such thing as "it is just a crack in the finish"
Sellers like to tell you that and it is wishful thinking at best and lying at worst. The paint cracks because the wood underneath is stressed and/or cracked. In 30 years of building and repairing, every "finish crack" I have seen had more going on underneath. If the cracks are minor, some waterthin superglue will fix it up....if not, it is luthier time. Re: neck break?
Thanks for the help Roman, much appreciated... I've just contacted the seller to inform him - he sent it via insured courier so I'm hoping I'll get my cash back or at the very least the cost of getting it repaired - it's such a shame as it's a great guitar, plays and sounds superb... I'm pretty gutted!
