Rist~O~Tele Has Landed!! (Pix Inside)
(Edit - two video clips added at the bottom of this post.)
Well, after an almost 2 day USPS delay (bastards!), the Rist Tele is in my hands! USPS was actually very cool about the shipping delay, and I met the truck at the hub to pick up my guitar. Literally within one minute of the truck backing up to the dock I had the box in hand - and within two minutes I had opened it up in my car to make sure she had arrived safely! Here is the Rist~O~Tele on her ride to my house: ![]() Well, I assure you that there is no "hype" involved when it comes to a guitar built by the hands of a master, loaded with pickups wound by a guy who loves to eat tacos (who is also a master pickup winder ). ![]() Where do I start... Well, the body is quite unique. 1 piece Ash - great grain, fairly tight, light weight, on the thin side for a Tele and has Strat contours. Very comfortable. ![]() ![]() The guitar is very balanced. Not neck up, not neck down, rather neck flat. It sits so comfortably that it is quite strange at first! It sits right where you want it. ![]() The neck is great. It fits my hand perfectly. Not quite a "C" shape, and not quite a "D" shape - somewhere in the middle. The neck joint is somewhat contoured -the body portion of the joint on the treble side being thinner than the bass side. See the pix. ![]() The WB's. 50's wire VTP Hot humbucker neck pickup, which splits with a tone knob push pull. Roman twisted Will's arm and got me the "old wire" hook up. Very cool. That neck pickup is warm yet articulate when in humbucker mode, Tele-twangy as a single coil (with only a very slight loss in volume - very slight). The bridge pickup (WB Hot Tele bridge pup) screams. It is sharp and articulate, not ice-pick-y, but close (in a good way). It really cuts with the overdrive cranked up. The middle position w/ the HB tapped is wired slightly out of phase - not quite a 2/4 position Strat sound, but approaching it. ![]() This guitar is fantastic. It'll definitely be my #1 stage guitar. Light weight, souds great, has that single coil bite that I love, but the humbucker option is there for when the stage volume is up high and I'm getting feedback. Roman - that generous bastard - even threw in a set of strap locks! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edit: Video clips to add. Listen at 2:15 - there is a move from the humbucker, to the split humbucker, to the out of phase middle position - it comes through pretty nicely here. At 3:00 you can really hear that "PAF" sound coming from the neck humbucker w/ the 50's wire with a little bit of gain on the amp. Nothing special here. My cable craps out a couple of times. Just a low volume recording on my still camera - so it is pretty low quality. Last edited by diceman; 07-30-2009 at 03:53 PM. |

You lucky bugger diceman, sweet looking Tele with what seems like all the right mods, and a one of a kind to boot. Should fit in with your hoard quite well.
Rick.

Cap'n C - you know all about this one!
I lowered the action just a hair since you played it. St. - I agree! Fuck Me - it does fit right in. It kind of wraps a few guitars in to one, that is for sure. Loving it! Gib - working on it! Edit - new pix added here, to include Cookie's "against the fence" request! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

A Roman Rist Masterpiece
Simple, functional, and a real badass of a guitar!
I don't know why, but I put the main thread about this in the "other guitars" section. Here is a link, and I'll add a few pix here as well: http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/my-o...ix-inside.html ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edit - new pix in: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by diceman; 07-30-2009 at 03:54 PM. |

Re: Rist~O~Tele Has Landed!! (Pix Inside)
Thanks again everybody!
This guitar has a life of its own - it really feels "different". Its the rawness I think. This guitar has 5 distinct pickup tones - and I haven't even touched the tone knob yet. Neck HB, neck split, middle w/ HB, middle split, (both middles are out of phase - just a little quack), and then the hot bridge. Will wound the neck pickup to 7.45k - very PAF sounding in HB mode but when split it has some nice bite to it. I can't find a single thing that I don't love about this guitar... Nothing else in my arsenal is nearly as versatile. |

Re: Rist~O~Tele Has Landed!! (Pix Inside)
Not yet - although it will after a few more practices and gigs!
Price? Considerably less than a new Fender AVRI - a little more than a Fender Standard. (Edited: big ol' typo!) Last edited by diceman; 07-29-2009 at 03:02 AM. |

EEF/Ripper - thanks much.
Alpine - stop on by! ![]() A little bird tells me that there are a couple of other Rist~o~Teles coming down the line who don't have homes yet. They're a little more "decked out" than this guy is, too. Real beauties.

Re: Rist~O~Tele Has Landed!! (Pix Inside)
Give us an update on the sound of the pickups. I'm in the market for a bridge pickup replacement to blend well with the sound/output of the humbucking neck on my blues boy.

Re: Rist~O~Tele Has Landed!! (Pix Inside)
Cookie - ummm.... Not yet, but soon. (As to both comments!)
![]() Here is a tidbit... I count 52 rings on the bass side of the guitar. Quite the piece of wood here (1 piece body). Alpine - the pickups are great - as expected. Bridge pup is a "Hot" WB Tele pickup - not sure what the output is, but the tone is just what you want in a bridge pickup. It is very articulate and bell like - clear - and cuts through distortion very well. Not too ice-picky, yet "sharp." It blends very well with the neck pickup in both humbucker and single coil mode. Neck pickup is very PAF sounding (warm) and has an output of 7.45 ohms according to Will. It splits in to a nice twangy single coil. Very punchy in both humbucker and single coil when you use heavy attack. |
