Re: Rist~O~Tele Has Landed!! (Pix Inside)
No, I really haven't. I don't play much metal to be honest - but I did have the overdrive cranked while playing some good old punk rock earlier! I'm AMAZED at how articulate these pickups are even with high gain. There is some real magic in this guitar.
I'll work on my metal chops. I picked up a neck through Ibanez RG the other day for cheap - so I'm inspired to pick up a few metal licks.

Added to the OP as well. Nothing special - my cable craps out a couple of times. Just a low volume recording on my still camera - so it is pretty low quality.

Looks good, dice! Really dig the Strat-thin body and subtle contouring. Nice touch to have the controls reversed - something I've been meaning to do to my Tele but never got around to it. Roman makes a Tele the way a Tele should be made

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I played it back. "A little bit..." Wasn't going to re-record it at 2:30 AM though! Even with crazy amounts of overdrive, these pickups are still quite articulate. The split neck is probably my favorite position on the guitar. I'm lovin' it!Kspeed - I'm in total agreement - Roman knows how to build a T style guitar the way it should have been built in the first place! |

THE OFFICIAL RIST "Area 51" PIC THREAD
I wanted to have a thread dedicated to all the Sweet Rist Tele's coming out.
Post them here Please!!!! I don't have a clue what mine is going to look like.. I'm going nuts waiting!! Will's and Dice's are Badass and I know the other's looked great too. Still none of them were mine. Figured this would be the best place for it since he is a Luthier..![]() ![]()

Re: Rist~O~Tele Has Landed!! (Pix Inside)
Cookie - your video distracted me.
I went and recorded a little video and used some *tasteful* tube overdrive in the middle of the clip. That MetalMuff pedal I used in the last vid comes off a lot better in a live setting than it did over the recording. So... a better video will be up shortly.

OK - here is a better video. Added to the OP as well.
Listen at 2:15 - there is a move from the humbucker, to the split humbucker, to the out of phase middle position - it comes through pretty nicely here. At 3:00 you can really hear that "PAF" sound coming from the neck humbucker w/ the 50's wire with a little bit of gain on the amp. |

Re: Rist~O~Tele Has Landed!! (Pix Inside)
Will gave me some interesting history on the piece of wood that my guitar is made from.
![]() Pictured is my guitar, Will's Rist, and a coffee table. My guitar, the core of Will's guitar, and the coffee table are all the same piece of wood!! Roman bought this giant piece of Ash from Wayne Charvel back in '85, but never built guitars with it because he thought it would be a little too heavy. He ended up building a book shelf and that table after planing it down to 1 3/4". Roman then thought he might be able to use a thinner blank with some Strat contours to keep the weight down, and that was the birth of my guitar. He used another piece for the core in Will's semi hollow. Pretty interesting, eh? |

Re: Rist~O~Tele Has Landed!! (Pix Inside)
That is a hot looking tele diceman, very nice indeed.
So your liking the oil finish? They feel real good and I reckon it must have a positive effect on tone. I dont usually get jealous looking at other peoples guitars, I'll admire them but not get jealous, but I cant help it with this one! I would love one of Mr Rist's creations!

Re: Rist~O~Tele Has Landed!! (Pix Inside)
Thanks Boycey - I'm really liking the oil finish. This guitar has tone for days, and feels great. Roman is set up in the new shop - maybe you should talk to him about a build?

Re: A Roman Rist Masterpiece
Delander - absolutely, and thanks!
DJ - Thanks much! I wrote that a good 12-13 years ago when I was 15 or so. I found myself playing a chord progression of C-G-Am-F - but keeping fret 1 on the B string depressed the whole time. So, I tuned the B string up to a C so that I didn't have to keep fretting that note. Same chord progression, only walking a little bit on the high E string (G-F-E-F-G). I noticed that I could play regular "power chords" (which are a barred D chord - just a power chord on the last 4 strings) when I had the B string tuned up 1/2 step. It kind of took off from there. My band has a full version of it that we put together a couple of years ago (a song 10 years in the making!), but we don't play it in our live set any more since it is too "low energy." Thanks for the compliment. I wrote that when I was quite frankly a crappy guitar player who was trying to break out of a beginner's rut by doing something outside of my comfort box. I'm 10x the player now that I was then - but I haven't written anything quite that interesting since. |

Re: A Roman Rist Masterpiece
I was actually talking about the table story... but I just went back and listened to the clips (which I didn't know were even in the thread!) and I have to say, the second clip is VERY VERY good. I liked it a lot, and with that said, I may have to steal that progression...
And for the record, I usually hate the sound of an electric guitar by itself... but that... man... wow... you're a lucky one, y'know that? Roman is, and you are for that matter, an artist.

Re: A Roman Rist Masterpiece
Woops!! I thought you were talking about the admittedly "strange" song! I am no Artist - but Roman definitely IS. And, the coffee table story is quite interesting. Maybe he'll cut apart that table and make a couple more great guitars out of it. Thanks for the (somewhat induced by my confusion!! ) compliment! Have at that chord progression. The power chord section is (root at the following frets 3 5 7(drop E string note back one fret for the minor every time for the 7's)-5-7-5 3-5-10-5 3-5-7-5-10 3-5-10The bridge is just regular old power chords - C-G-A-F-G The 2nd chord section is F-C F-C-Am-G and ends with a strange little E/G chord (no idea what it is) to F a few times... That probably didn't help in the least. Just tune that B string up to C and have at it!
