abr 1 spacing and an old tailpiece...

I have an old tailpiece I wanted to use with a newer ABR 1 bridge..
tIt seems that the string to string spacing on the tailpiece is a bit smaller (like around 2")
the string to string spacing on the bridge is (2 1/8") whatever the standard "G" spacing is..
should I use this tailpiece or scrap the Idea?
I would like to use it as it was from ym first guitar and It's been with me for 25 plus years .. I would make my new build all that more personal..
obviously I can get a new one for just a few bucks soo...
