Re: My Les Paul Build

Hi, awesome guitar !! I'm building a les paul replica myself and I have a few questions :

-Did you install the truss rod with a small slope into the channel? I've seen that on other forums. If not, does it work good?

-I got the stewmac plan also, there's no mesurement for the length of the neck. How did you figured it out?

-Finally, did you make the holes for the pickups at the same angle as the carve top?

Thanks !

Could you please tell me what type of wood grain filler you used? Brand? Did you have to add dye to this as well or was it premixed?

You've done a remarkable job on this one. I can not wait to see your next!

Re: My Les Paul Build

The burst is just right imo. Thats just one of the prettiest guitars Ive ever had the privilege of seeing.

Your a great craftsman and quite modest as well.

Re: My Les Paul Build

Really nice...I mean...like really nice!

Maybe a stupid question, but how/when did you make the routing for all the wires and the like? Also, how did you ground it? I'm modifying a guitar myself and now I've kind of hit a roadblock on that...

Great build...

Grtz.

That is simply amazing. How long did it take you to make? With that kind of skill you should start adding custom guitars into your product line!

Re: My Les Paul Build

You did an awesome job, and thanks for documenting it! Your presentation was more than I would have thought you'd have time for, considering the work you were doing. I can't tell you how much it helps folks just to see this done step by step, and so well photographed and documented. I think your Les Paul Standard has come out beautifully, and I believe its exactly the way you planned, you are an artist. Could you photo document the silk screening of the LP logo, and how much did it weigh at the final assembly? Great work!!

Yup, it's legal. Selling them as real gibson is illegal.

Great build!

Re: My Les Paul Build

Hi,
I'm new here but I'm considering building my own LP. Question I was wondering how you went about drilling the holes that connect the pot area, the pickups and the selector switch? It does'nt look like you can get a drill in there at the correct angle.

I have alot of maple in my shop and I'm thinking of making the whole thing out of maple. Other than the weight do you see any advantages or disadvantages to this?

Thanks for all of your posts you really have built a beautiful instrument!

Aside from the weight, I think you'd find it overly bright sounding.

Re: My Les Paul Build

I just discovered this thread while looking for something else.

I must say that I´m really impressed how somebody with now experience in instrument making can come up with something even half as nice.

I just loved reading this thread - thank you for posting this.

Against what seems to be the major gripe about your fabulous job I really LOVE the way you did the burst on this guitar. Nothing beats a really fine and narrow burst on the contour of the body that gets a little wider in the switch and cutaway area.

I love it!

I really liked your playing in the soundsample you made too - awesome tone!

Nothing left to say - I´m stoked!

He didn't show it, but there are channels routed in the body before the top is glued on.
