Using Eld for guitar building?

Hi
I found few old pieces of Eld at my parent's home.
Do you know this wood??
Is it good for guitar building? is it good for the tone? what are the acoustic characteristics (compared to maple, mahogany, etc.)?
Is there something particular about this wood?
Here is picture :

a kind of simulation (quickly done and not very cool but I like the figurations on the wood) :

What do you think of this for making body, top, neck, fingerboard?

Re: Using Eld for guitar building?

What thickness do I need, I read 1/4" on stewmac top wood : Solidbody Top Wood at Stewart-MacDonald
On my Les Paul, I can see that under the bridge pickup it's rather 1/2". But my Les Paul is a Custom from 1985, do you know how it was on 59 burst or something?
Thank you.

For a carved top, anywhere from 1/2 to 5/8ths of an inch thick.

Go thicker, you can always take it off, but you can't put it back on.

Re: Using Eld for guitar building?

Im not familiar with Eld, but it looks a lot like pine to me. Pine is generally reputed to be terrible for tonewood, and dent easily, but Ive played a few old growth pine teles that were GREAT, nice and light. Go for it

Re: Using Eld for guitar building?

This wood is much harder than pine.
It stood at my parents house for years before they buy this house. The former owner didn't care about this wood. We really don't know where it comes from but it may be more than 50 years old and may be old growth.
Some told me that this wood is very rare because a disease killed most of the Eld Tree (in the 1960s I think).
I have few piece, I will try to make guitars with those things. maybe use this piece as a top for a Les Paul !!! but is just 1/2" thick but I is not such a big problem, just a thinner top !
