Re: is this maple thick enough?

My replica ended up right around 5/8. My wood came from NW Timber. Northwest Timber

They have pictures of the billets and I was able to find the flame I wanted. I had enough for two tops from the one piece which I had to split to bookmatch. I traced a Les Paul on white paper, cut it out, folded it in half, and then positioned it to take best advantage of the figure in the wood. That also got me two tops.

the website i gave you has 7'' wide maple, you can half it to get a 14'' bookmatched maple top .... the site i showed you do ship internationally, but shipping costs around 50 dollars to New Zealand so it must be same around Australia.

someone posted this website on Treddingjr's thread
North Ridge Hardwoods
they ship international as well, shipping also costs 50 dollars.

Figured Maple - Information and Pricing at LMI

this website also sells maple ...

Re: is this maple thick enough?

thank you, you guys have been very helpful, I need to get rough estimations of pricing to work out my budget, its good to plan a few months ahead. So far I am on roughly $520 for the maple top, electronics, bridge and tail piece and such, not counting the mahogany body, neck and ebony frets.

Re: is this maple thick enough?

i'd advice you to buy flame maple from Ebay. they cost 30 bucks plus shipping of around 30-50 bucks. you'd save heaps of money and basically get good quality wood... but if you can afford to ...those websites are great.

No problems mate, a year ago i was exactly where you were, gathering info for a les paul build..... my build starts in 2 weeks time. I'll be recording every aspect of the build and posting it as an Ebook on this forum so future builders with no prior knowledge like myself can start working in a matter of hours after reading the information.

yeah.. unfortunately i don't have my mahogany i'll be getting that in a couple of months..... so i'll be making a gibson explorer first (with an ancient kauri back and neck - flatsawn to get the nice grain )and make an ebook for it.... get some experience before tackling the more challenging les paul build. .... eventually i will post that book here too...

i m hoping to get the front to look like this
http://cachepe.samedaymusic.com/medi...95b8477692.jpg

and the back like this

and hopefully during december i'll start making an ebook of a es335 ..... but thats a future build...
