Hello from Atlanta

Hello, I signed up because of how friendly people are here. (And I have a EPLP.)

I'll give some background on my quest for guitar buying and playing:

I didn't start playing guitar until last year and it was a present for my 30th bday (May), I'm a late bloomer. So I decided to buy an Epiphone LP Standard that is a beautiful blue (pics below). I tried all different guitars but I've always loved and went back to the LP style and tone.

But an interesting thing happened when looking for a first guitar was... some people really hate the fact that Epiphone LP guitars exist. In fact, I had more than one person tell me they were complete junk. That was pretty surprising because they didn't look or feel like junk (but what did I know?) and here I thought we were in this for the music?

anyway

I've been playing since May 07 (just under a year) and taking lessons every other week. I don't feel like I progress as quickly as most people (probably due to a lack of practice) but I love guitar too much to care. I try to play for at least a few mins per day but sometimes life just gets in the way.

I've never had an opportunity to jam with other musicians but I think it would be a lot of fun and I've heard it's one of the best ways to learn.

Here are the pictures of my EPLP and my amp:

This pics are a bit older and I have taken the pickguard off:

mmm tubes...

That's it for now. So hello.

Thanks, I really love the tone that comes out of this amp. I needed distortion though so I picked up a Digitech RP250 and had my guitar teacher program some decent tone on it.

Re: Hello from Atlanta

Welcome Thrash!

That's a beautiful guitar....always thought about picking up a blue or green one of these days. Very original, and nice top!

Don't sweat the Epi comments...those of us who own one know better.

Most people here are pretty civil about it. Enjoy!

Re: Hello from Atlanta

Yeah man, Epi's are great for the money. Who else makes an LP style guitar (that is actually an LP) like em' for the money. HAHA nice Jet! I love those!! I actually was given an original Jet when I was just starting out with my band, and the grounding was off! I fried myself and our singer and rythem guitarist just by bumping into them with my guitars headstock. It was shocking..........eerrrrrr that was awful. Great tones from that amp.

Re: Hello from Atlanta

haha. I had a friend who had an amp head that used to do that. Shocked me pretty good one day... but still worked. Needless to say I was shocked by the whole experience.

I love bad puns

Yep, Ampegs are real clean amps with lots of real clean headroom thats why the jazz guys like them so much.
I've got one just like yours and love it, Does yours have the 6c10 preamp tubes !
Loud little bugger for its size.

Re: Hello from Atlanta

Definitely very clean. I don't know much about tubes but they're the taller one's (not 12ax7s).

Loud is an understatement! I have my volume set to 2!

Re: Hello from Atlanta

Mine has actually the 6BK11 preamp tubes but you can substitute 6C10's because the 6BK11's are hard to find they are short stubby tubes about 1 1/2" tall . 7591 power tubes and 5y3 rectifier.
You should have a tube chart on the label inside the cab if you want to know whats in her. Mines a 1964 model year.

Re: Hello from Atlanta

Welcome Atlanta Man , I lived in the N'Lake Mall area for 27 years before moving to Auburn. That's a great guitar ya got there, waaaay better than my first.

Just Zen out and practice 2 hours a day for 6 months, then try 6 hours a day, best done in the closet where no one can hear it. Of course make sure you stick with a good teacher so you learn good technique. After maybe 3 years of dedicated lessons you should be able to climb the rest of the way on your own. But it does help to be a little off your rocker, excuse the pun . I used to spend close to 8 hours a day playing the guitar for about 5 years. Everybody told me I was nutz, well, they were right

Very cool. I live near Alpharetta.

I wish I could practice that much!

I have a pretty good teacher but it's a bit of a drive for me and I only see him once every two weeks. And 3 years is a long time for lessons and I've thought about switching teachers after a year to get a fresh perspective.

But I like my teacher a lot and wouldn't want to leave

Re: Hello from Atlanta

I don't know what kind of music you like to play but the instructors at Maple Street Music in Buckhead are first class.

Re: Hello from Atlanta

I like a lot of different music. I'll play just about anything I can learn.

metal, punk, folk, blues, rock etc..

Maple Street Music... bit of a drive but I'll check it out one of these days. It maybe worth it.
