G.A.S. wins again, and here I am. Hi everyone!
Hello everyone, my name is James and I'm a guitar-aholic. My need to play got resurrected back in the summer of 2008 and has since become a ritual. I have an old american made Peavey Predator from around '94, a 2002 Gibson faded V, and I just ordered an Xaviere XV-700 in lemon drop. I plan to hotrod the Xaviere and eventually recut the head stock and horn and replace all of the wiring, electronics, and hardware in an attempt to make a comfortable and light weight Les Paul with electronics like an original burst. I hope to one day build a burst replica like Ex-Nihilo's, but I'm sure there will be plenty of crap built along the way to show off (and laugh at). I like LOTS of music from the classics like Led Zep and ZZ Top to 311, STP, and Sound Garden. I'm probably gonna be getting into the blues pretty soon because I want to expand my abilities. My other hobbies include wrenching on and racing cars and an interest in all things science and tech related. I work in the IT biz, but would rather build and play guitars. Rock on good people!

Re: G.A.S. wins again, and here I am. Hi everyone!
Welcome!
I hotrodded my old Xaviere XV-500. It was a solidly built guitar but I never clicked with the neck profile. You'll never be close to a Gibson with it because of the inlays/cutaway, among other things, but go for it if that's what you want! I'm just warning you as a guy who's been there; I wanted a Gibson style but it wasn't close, so I traded it off. I can't say I don't miss it at times though. They are definitely very playable, although a pro setup will help you a LOT. ![]() Here's my old one after all the mods. ![]() Keep us posted!

Re: G.A.S. wins again, and here I am. Hi everyone!
Yours is very nice looking Skynyrd, and I love that crazy dog! I have a Gibson faded V, it is a very nice guitar with a hand filed neck, but I hate the shape of the guitar, and if this one is nice, then the V is for sale. I am after the sound of a late '50s burst, and I really don't care about the horn or headstock. I am buying the wood and the finish. It's as close to old growth Honduras Mahog with a long tenon neck and maple cap as I can get right now. I'll probably keep the pickups, but like I said, I will be ditching everything else attached to the wood. Setup will be done by me, I like doing it and can always get my axes very playable. My main concern at this point is that the lemon drop won't have any burst effect, just yellow with very small/light flames (boo) or the guitar's glue will be cheap and it won't resonate well. It seems to have correct construction from the specs I have read, the only thing I would change would be the neck, I like a thicker profile, I think, but we'll see when I get it on Tuesday. I'll make some pics and tell everyone how it compares to the Flying V. If anyone is interested, yes you can play the V sitting down, and yes, it will fall right off your lap!
