New to Guitars

Hi all, I have been playing Guitar for 4 months now and I can't play much at all. My guitar is a Livingstone copy of a les paul, only days ago did I learn to tune my guitar. My goal in life is to be a rockstar, yes it's childish but when hasn't someone wanted to be one? I don't know how many people name their guitars but I call mine Electric Sunshinem. My favourite bands are Foo Fighters of which I saw live in Brisbane, Jebedaih (sorry about spelling), Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Mess Hall, The Killers, Guns N' Roses and many, many more. I also play Dungeons & Dragons and lots of video games. Cars are another of my personal hobbies (If you want to know my favourite car is the Chrysler 300c). Well that's enough about me, I hope I fit in with the forum and its members.

Andrew

Re: New to Guitars

Cool ! Keep practising and playing as much as you can every day. And it dosent really matter how much your gat costs, as long as you get a kick out of the noise that you can make with it.

Rock on.

Re: New to Guitars

dude thats awesome. My first electric was the famed Ibanez lp copy. This is a great place to hang out and learn. Just a word of advice, practice often but always pratice correctly. Start slow and then slowly speed things up.

When tuning your guitar get used to tuning the low E string then when you can practice tuning the rest of the guitar by ear. This is very important you will train your ear to really hear the different notes and then you can use this to start learning songs off the radio...better ear, quicker it is to pick out notes.

Have fun kiddo! and welcome!

I only have just learnt how to tune the guitar with the 5th fret trick. Though I'm not sure how to tune the low E string Any help with that?

Re: New to Guitars

I've already welcomed you in another thread, but hello again.

Here's an online tuner:

Guitar Tuner @ HowToTuneAGuitar.org

You can use that and your ear to tune that bottom (low) E, or all the strings if you wish. You'll have to use your ear to match the notes, but that will be good practice for you.

get yourself an electronic tuner, or a tuning fork or even the good old pitch pipes, Welcome to the World of guitar you will be it's prisoner now forever there is no escape !!

Guitars are all embracing and you will find yourself lusting after everyone else's guitar.
A long road of hard work and practice lies ahead of you there is no way out of that , but it is so worth it.
Don't give up my friend even when it starts to get tougher than a tough thing in a tough contest, it is so good to able to play something.
I wish you well , you wi9ll find a friendly bunch here who will help

Welcome again

Thanks for that link. It works really well. Though I'm having a bit of trouble with dropping my guitar, is it the strap I'm using? Should I buy a new one?

No problem. You should think about saving up for a good tuner (stand alone or pedal) down the road, though. That way you're not relying on your computer every time you play. I believe there's been a few threads about tuners, so you should try using the search feature to look them up.

Is it popping off of the neck strap pin? Les Pauls have a habit of doing that very thing. A new strap may or may not help. Strap locks seem to be the answer.
