...So I had to register an acct. To say I'm impressed and in total awe of the scope and breadth of knowledge shared by the posters on this forum would be like saying the bottom of the ocean is 'a little moist' The membership on this forum is incredible.

Right. So I'm originally from New York City, now living in Shanghai. Got my LP Standard new in '91, though I have not played much in the last 10+ years. But things change. and now I have opportunity to pursue things I want to rather than doing the things I have to. Unfortunately, all my gear is currently 8000 miles away.

If anyone cares, my handle (laowai) is just Chinese pinyin for 'foreigner'. And one question: In a few of the threads on this page, I've seen references like 'another refugee from *___ . What's that about?

The "refugee from Epiphone forum" tag you've seen apparently refers to some Webdrama that's going on over there that is clearly chasing its members away.

Welcome to MLP. If you know anything about the Gibson Forum, then you'd understand all the references to "refugees", but it's a very long and boring story. Needless to say, there are a lot of folks here who used to frequent other forums.

Yes and no. I miss the obvious stuff. Friends and family, food, my 25 mbit fios connection, crystal blue skies and tap water you can drink, that kind of stuff. (that said, pollution isn't that bad here. air quality is about par with NY.) But it was time for change.

Mrs. has her parents here and they need her now(end of life stuff), and with nothing going on for us in NY we decided to cash out and roll our dice in a different casino. Go big or go home, I guess
