Hey, my name is Tim, I go by Coup
So, my name is Tim, but I go by Coup. I am new here, but I've been lurking as a visitor for some time, and I decided to become a member a few weeks ago.
I've been a member of another music board for about 3 years, and I had consistently heard great things about this board via pm's on that other board. I had meant to get involved over here a while back, but I have an awkward relationship with LPs that made it seem a little odd to be over here. I love to play LPs in the studio, and I did most of my recent studio work on R8s and R9s. When demo-ing an amp in a store, I will always seek out a Gibson LP, the problem is that live they can be fatiguing in their weight and I prefer the balance (or lack thereof) of an SG, since I learned to play on SGs. I love SGs and like LPs, but I pretty much require an ebony fretboard in order to feel inspired long term. During Studio work, I can swallow the rosewood boards of R8 / R9s because I do like the way the tone records, but the feel is all wrong. I have several early 2002-2003 SG Faded guitars with the moon inlays on the ebony board because I really like that guitar for some reason. I am here now, because I like the community that is here, and because as I have been in the studio more, I am realizing the need to own my own LP (or several if I am going to seriously use them beyond the studio). This LP would need an ebony board, and I am pretty laid back about the LP neck choice. I think I found a LP Goddess that will be my first LP for live use, and I am considering either hunting a 1979-1981 solid body LP custom or maybe a Manhatten Midnight LP (I really like the color, and it has ebony), or maybe something else entirely. Not sure. That's why I am here, to learn and eventually contribute to a community who know LPs better than the hacks at Gibson do. Ask me anything you want, I want to get to know all of ya. |
