Howdy, MLP!

As you can probably tell from my username... I can't freaking stand rap music. I can just barely listen to Eminem before flying into a passionate rage... much less other talentless autotune "artists". I'm a 14-year old guitarist who mainly listens to Classic Rock music (Like mostly everyone else here...), Classical, and Metal as long as it doesn't overdo the cookie monster vocals. My favorite bands are Led Zeppelin, Foreigner, Cheap Trick, Van Halen, ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, Wolfmother, KISS, Metallica, Kamelot, and Pantera.

I've been playing guitar for almost 2 years... even had my first "gig" a year ago, and several months ago I decided to spoil myself by buying a new guitar. The decision was tough. Being a newbie who knew nothing about guitars (On one occasion, I thought a Fender Telecaster played metal simply because it looked cool. Let me say that again... A Telecaster). Later I developed a taste for classic rock, mainly Led Zeppelin. It's a shame I missed their last reunion concert. After watching "The Song Remains the Same", I simply had to buy a Gibson. My guitar teacher is a big LP fan who owns like 20 of them, seriously, he met Les Paul himself a few years ago. So, learning my lesson from the cool-looking black telecaster that sounded nothing like I thought, I looked mainly for a guitar that sounded good and would produce the tones I wanted. My first guitar was nothing special... a $300 Squier Starter pack. The frontman amp stayed with me for a while until I bought a G-DEC 3... haven't touched the frontman since.

Eventually, I came across this 1998 Gibson Studio used for $700. It was seriously everything I could possibly want in a guitar, besides looks:

Someday I may buy a Standard, but definitely not as a teen growing up during a recession. (I'm currently paying off a $500 Fender G-DEC amplifier) I think this guitar is going to stay with me for a long time.

In my opinion, I play guitar pretty well, and practice for an hour or more per day. I can play basic guitar solos... and improvise over the minor pentatonic scale, although I've decided to teach myself music theory so I can improvise over more scales. Right now I'm up to the modes. I have a tiny bit of experience on the Piano, Recorder, and Trumpet, so I know basic notation and scales. I'm pretty good at tremolo and arpeggiated picking right now... but I cannot pick sweep or shred yet.

Last month, I attended Power Chord Academy overdrive music camp, where I wrote a very basic song with some bandmates. I thought it was pretty fun, and I might stay there for 2 weeks next year.

Anyways, I hope to become better at guitar, and I have to practice now. Hope this has been a swell introduction.
