50th Anniversary 1958 Les Paul Standard Flame Top
Gibson Custom Shop 50th Anniversary 1958 Les Paul Standard Flame Top Murphy-Aged This extremely limited edition boasts all the original features of the debut '58 Les Paul. Commonly referred to as the Stradivarius of the 20th century", the Gibson Les Paul Standard debuted in 1958 featuring PAF pickups and a beautiful carved maple top, visible for the first time through a stunning sunburst finish. We're proud to offer the first 58 of 200 highly flamed Eastern maple topped beauties. This finely aged reproduction will be the pinnacle of any guitar collection. Gibson has reproduced both look and sound to an amazing degree in this 50th Anniversary 1958 Les Paul Standard model. From the single-ply cream binding to the acrylic trapezoid inlays to the vintage tulip tuners, this Les Paul guitar looks like it came through a time machine. In addition to the accurate choice and quality of woods, the tone of BurstBucker pickups, CTS pots and bumble bee capacitors will take you back to the golden age of rock guitar the moment you plug it in and play. The highly involved antiquing process is done by hand, one guitar at a time, by guitar artisan Tom Murphy. It's not a chemical process, but a very time consuming and tedious work that includes a multitude of elaborate steps. Through much trial and error, Murphy has developed an amazing ability to recreate the checked and chipped finish of a true vintage instrument with great success. Your guitar will carry the look of a thousand smoky bar gigs, countless sessions, and maybe even a few world tours. Re: 50th Anniversary 1958 Les Paul Standard Flame Top
Wow...that's a beauty of a guitar!! But you're right...the first thing I was looking for was that commemorative 12th fret inlay, or that one of a kind headstock design, or at least a definitive truss rod cover. -But a sticker?
![]() So much for taking that pickguard off now..... ![]() Makes that Slash Epi (Used to be $699....now $999) look like the bargain of the century.

Re: 50th Anniversary 1958 Les Paul Standard Flame Top
The sad thing is this appears to be a preview of what we will be getting for the 50th anniversay R9. One thing I find strange is that they would go through the Murphy aging but the hardware really isn't aged like the older Murphys, it looks more like VOS finished HW rather than my 00R9 Murphy
I guess there is one good thing about it, I'll be saving a bunch of money if this is the way they go on the R9 50th anniversay. |

Re: 50th Anniversary 1958 Les Paul Standard Flame Top
This is really sad. I don't believe an extra 5 minutes effort was put into these at all. I also believe this is pure greed at work here. Would it kill Gibson to make Les Pauls that are actually within the price range of most people. I'm not talking studios here either. I'm talking about reissue quality and all the appointments that people want. I realize this is corporate heresy, but really $6000 guitars. Thats bullshit!!!

What a rip off I'm sorry to say...
Makes me want a "basic" classic that much more...

But look at that pick guard logo. That’s awesome! And if you think that logo is bad ass , wait ‘till you see next years pick guard logo! Worth EVERY penny.

Re: 50th Anniversary 1958 Les Paul Standard Flame Top
I'm going to have to look for an after-market sticker like that for my R9!
Then it'll be just like the reissue! ![]() C'Mon, Gibson...is that the best you can do? BB
