what is the G0's 'official' name?

I'm wanting to snoop around the internet and look at some G0's - but wanted to find out what they're 'official' name is? Should I just be looking for a "Guitar Center 60 Reissue?"

Thanks guys - I haven't had much luck tracking any down - and have called Guitar Center on the phone and they didn't know what the hell I was talking about (they are discontinued at this point, correct?).

dark and lemon are 2 colors made for GC, giving them the "G0" moniker.

Those darkburst G0s are so different from any other darkburst. I'd love to have one, but I like bigger necks. My local GC never has one for me to try...

Re: what is the G0's 'official' name?

I bought the darkburst as a player, but it shined up so damn nice I use my goldtop mostly now, besides the neck is alot better for me. ditto on the 60 neck. I prefer the R7 neck myself.

Aren't the R7 necks a little bigger in general than the R8s? My R8 is my #1. and will probably remain so.. It just kills my R9.

Here she is before-

and after-

I know some people don't go for the naked look, but oh well.

So that was a VOS, and when you polished it, it got too shiny for you? Or you just don't want to dull it again?

Re: what is the G0's 'official' name?

They have an used one at the GC in San Jose (it's $1999). I played it just the other day, and was going to make a very low ball offer. However, the neck didn't actually suit me, and the strings on it were tuned so far down, and so old, that I couldn't get an honest version of what its tone was like. Also, it felt like it needed a fret job. It was a very light guitar. Someone really played the crud out of it, in a good way.

Actually, I might have gone for it, but I'm holding out for the right R8.

Unfortunately, that's the kind of crap you have to look forward to in GC. Yeah, If you like big necks, you can't go wrong with an R8 or lower!

Re: what is the G0's 'official' name?

Great pix guys! Thanks for the link as well, dwagar. So - the G0 is very similar to the R8, with a 60's neck - and within a couple hundred bucks pricewise. I may be leaning towards the R8... Our shop is supposed to get a few in over the next couple of months, so I'll get some more hands on time with them. The only R8 that I've played so far was a chambered model (I didn't dislike it at all - but will definitely go w/ a solid back). Thanks again for the info. Boleskin - your R8 is a beauty! Regardless of which model I end up going with - it'll be a dark/tobacco burst!

Thats a nice price! Too bad they didn't have it set up to sell... no excuse for old strings on a guitar of that caliber hanging on a shop wall.

I agree. I really only go to GC for things like strings n' cords, but of course I have to take a look at the wall when I do. I live in San Francisco, but was in San Jose for work that day. Seeing the used one kind of gave me a little faith that you can find something good anywhere on a lucky day, but the whole experience was typical of GC. I wanted to play it on a, "nice tube amp," so the guy said, "Let's go to the vintage room." They had a couple of Marshalls and Fenders, but the only thing he could get working was some 5150 thing, which is not my cup of tea at all. Then he couldn't find a working cord, and then when we did get it all set up, the guitar was all out of whack for testing (bad strings etc., as I mentioned). The whole thing was a reminder to me....stop in once in awhile to check stuff out, sure, but don't expect to have a good experience, or to feel comfortable enough to shell out big money at GC. It was really dissapointing. The salesman was really nice though, which is not always the case there. He did keep saying, "remember, if you like it, I'm your sales associate..." which is never any fun to listen to. I usually shop at Gelb Music on the Penninsula, or Rocker Guitars in SF, neither of which pay their staff with commission, which makes the whole experience a lot better.

Re: what is the G0's 'official' name?

Got an 07 G0 Lemon VOS. I had to play quite a few till I found the one, spent the whole evening there but brought home a killer. Guess I got lucky, the sales people were real good, full choice of amps to play through, nice job overall..... except.... they didn't have the correct CoA, or warranty card, found out when I got home. I don't ever intend on selling it anyway (I'm that happy with it) but, in order to get a CoA nowadays the guitar has to be sent back to Gibson for "evaluation". Oh well, live and learn... that was my consensus to, I bought a 06 R8 for $2200, thats about what a regular prod. std goes for, plus the R series are solid, nothing weight relieved. You got a real beauty there joey, ,mine is the exact same color
