New double-creams and caps for my R9

Since I had the soldering iron out, to install Jonesy's kit in my Classic, I made a few changes to my R9. Took the Classic 57s and Sprague Orange Drops out and replaced them with a set of Sheptone AB Custom PAFs and Gudeman PIO caps that I got from Jonesy. The Classic 57s were bright and fairly clear, but the Sheptones are much more full and robust sounding. I'm very pleased with them. Here's some pics with and without the pickguard. It's strange, but the flame on the top seems very subdued in sunlight. It's much more pronounced indoors.

Re: New double-creams and caps for my R9

Looks awesome.

I noticed that you don't have a ground between the neck/bridge pots...not unusual, I've seen that before. I suppose you are getting the ground from the braided wires making contact, but I prefer to have a solid link between the tone pots.

I'll bet that thing sounds great.

Man i love the White PUP's..Too bad Gibson can't produce this. Really is a bummer. Tough choice with or without the Guard. I'd go without

and that explains the slight hum I was hearing in the neck position. I'll break out the soldering iron and some wire

I have a Gudeman that I got from Jonesy in the bridge position too. I really like it.

Nice combination. Do you think the exposed screw holes pose any problems? Thats the only thing that bothers me with my guitar w/o the pickguard..thought about a transparent replacent.

Just noticed I messed up in the OP. I installed Jonesy's kit in my Standard, not my Classic

Re: New double-creams and caps for my R9

I dig those doube creams! And please don't hide that lovely top underneath a pickguard Whatta beauty!

I got an older SD '59 bridge pickup (80's I suppose) in double cream, it used to sit in my LP Special (humbucker edition). Really a shame that only DiMarzio is officially allowed now to produce double creams

Yup, pickguard is staying on. Here's some pics I was messing with of the Les Pauls standing tall. The brighter one is with a 15 sec exposure. A tad bit overexposed, but I like the colors in it

Quite complicated indeed These are the classy creams, which are almost white-ish but not totally white (see the picture I have posted before, and have a look at the white paper in the background!). DiMarzio, who has a trademark (or whatsoever) on exposed double cream bobbins, sells only fugly (imo) saturated cream ones.

since you replaced the caps, why not go ahead and connect to the lower lug on the tone pots like a real 59?
