Re: one piece top R9 wow!
It is unique and awkward because of the fact that they're not many and it's not something that was on the originals. It's actually a nice top. I've seen a 1 piece Quilt a few yrs back and it was the same. Awkward

Re: one piece top R9 wow!
Very nice top! Looks like the twin of my '03 R9 (two piece top on mine though!);
![]() ![]() Let us know how much the dealer is asking for it,would be interesting to see what a rare piece like that sells for. Last edited by jimmyq; 05-12-2010 at 05:24 AM. |

Re: one piece top R9 wow!
Man, if you can afford it, go and get it!!!
I only once had a Les Paul with a one piece top, and although it was not even a Gibson but only a Vester copy, it was one of the best sounding and most sustaining Paulas I've ever had!!! And I can't help but blame this on the one-piece-top and since then I'm looking for a Gibson with this feature! You ARE LUCKY!!! I'm still pondering on stripping my R7 because there is no center seam on the top in the PU-cavities and I'm kind of hoping to find a one-piece-top underneath the gold, but honestly, I rather think it's just unevenly matched with a larger and a smaller piece... although they made some one-piece-tops on goldtops back in the golden days... well, I'll keep dreaming on, but you should go and buy this one! |

There was a Tobacco one piece top R9 at Mark's a couple of years ago that was drop-dead gorgeous. I think a member here has it.

Re: one piece top R9 wow!
It looks great, would like to have one of those. But still, somehow I find the two piece top more attractive. Maybe I just prefer the classical look of a Gibson Les Paul, but yea, that one piece is a killer.

Re: one piece top R9 wow!
well you could always buy the one piece top and then saw it in half, glue it back on and have the most perfect bookmatched top ever!

Re: one piece top R9 wow!
I think it's absolutely gorgeous...the top, the color, everything! Boy, if that had Braz, I'd be seriously considering it!

Re: one piece top R9 wow!
If you like it and it's not the middle leg he's demanding, what the heck, go for it. Personally, I prefer the "chevron" look of a nice bookmatched top, but that's just me.

Re: one piece top R9 wow!
I like this one - just takes a bit of getting used to when you look at it. I'm surprised Gibson haven't done more, PRS do it quite regularly. I know it's not historically correct, but since when has that stopped Gibson doing anything? i.e. How many quilted maple topped 'bursts have you seen?
Having said that I'm sure there have been one or two "one piece top" 50's bursts, but with a centre seam, if you know what I mean. The maple was cut in two but the halves joined at the cut so that the top appears to be one continuous piece, as opposed to book or flitch matching the two halves. The effect was almost indistinguishable from a one piece top, at least in the photos I've seen. Good luck goodvibes, keep us informed.

Re: one piece top R9 wow!
as long as you realize that as soon as you post the NGD thread and pics you'll have a bunch of sanctimonious pr*cks moaning that the seam is off...

Re: one piece top R9 wow!
Hey, may the fattest wallet win!
I emailed the store no response. I guess he really means "call" . Usually "Call" is a four letter word for "how much do you have?" I'll try to call him tomorrow. Maybe someone else should call and inquire and we can find out his real "bottom line"

If only Gibson had made even 1 one-piece then this guitar would have been embraced by the fans, although having said that, the wild flamed ones tend to be sniffed at even though some of the Ur-bursts were wild. The consensus seems to be that tops are "realistic" or acceptable in a historic sense only as far as "middling" or average tops. Plain is good, a little bit of flame is good, a bit more flame is good, then hold on a minute - that's too much flame..... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() :sh ock:![]() I called the guy and he said someone put a cash deposit hold on it! He would not tell me how much. Anyway, I can't buy anymore geetars for a while. I lost my bonus and my normal pay raise this year...the company just isn't throwing us working dogs a meaty bone anymore. Guess I'm lucky to have a job though ![]() I want to see picks if it was one of you buggars
