Re: 50th Anniversary R8

I'm sure a couple of the collectors here will have one. Too rich for my blood though.

Re: 50th Anniversary R8

due to the limited run, I'm sure it'll be collectable. I do like the fact that you can get a figured top on an R8 again.

but, other than the extra pickguard and Murphy aging, and I guess a slightly bigger neck, what separates this from a regular R9?

hmm. Maybe a new Murphy R9 would be worth the same? Could be.

Re: 50th Anniversary R8

I don't know if it is overpriced. With that figured top, it should be worth about what a Murphy R9 would cost, I think.

and the R9 in LPCollector's link doesn't say Murphy, just aged.

The COA in the pictures does say Murphy....

OOOOOOH, and I forgot the pick guard signed by the man himself.....Les Paul.
So, maybe not such a good comparison.

Re: 50th Anniversary R8

but, if that R9 is a limited edition, Murphy aged, with a snappy jacket, I wonder what they are planning for next year's R9?

maybe a jacket with 50th anniversary on it?

Re: 50th Anniversary R8

are you asking if the 50th Ann R8 is different than the regular R8, or different than the regular R9? The figured top makes it, IMO, basically the same as an R9 with a slightly bigger neck.

And what do you mean by the real deal?

Re: 50th Anniversary R8

That's a lot of scratch for a flame top R8. Nice looking, though.

Re: 50th Anniversary R8

All these re-issues are too rich for my blood, but I love 'em anyway. I think the price is right for a Murphy aged guitar.

I'd rather go and get the pickguard signed myself, anyway

IMO they are very close now, I'm not sure what changes we'd want them to make?

I suppose they could relocate the TP without too much trouble (if you really want that done, I think RS only charges about $100 to do this). We know they won't start using hide glue, which also means they can't leave the truss rod condom off, and they can't use Braz boards anymore.

Other stuff, for example if you want real Bees, are easy enough to change yourself.

They probably will never change to the original finishes, while a small portion of the market wants the finishes to fade out, I'm pretty sure most of the market would view it as a defect.

IMO the closest to the real deal would be to buy a used one and ship it to Historic Makeovers. You could probably do that for close to the price of a new one, or just a bit more.
