I'm not familiar with the band or the player, but that's still friggin' cool as hell.

Re: Great Flame...a lesson on selecting a nice R9 flame

They never hit it really big, but have done several good albums. Kinda like the ABB but more funky.

They are still a great band, and play occasionally in STL.

I love this shot...great color, and I think it really makes my LP look vintage.

BTW...Max plays almost exclusively on teh neck pickup, and the Peter Green mod suited him to a tee...my guitar sounded infinitely better than his '69 LP Custom.

I like it--is that what they call BBQ? I dig the tight flame pattern. Makes it different.

Great looking axe!

Re: Great Flame...a lesson on selecting a nice R9 flame

flame is subjective. Some people like it tight, pinstripe, BBQ, quilted, chevron shape, and many more. I like curly fat flame that is not too symetrical.

Re: Great Flame...a lesson on selecting a nice R9 flame

I think I've got one of every type of flame to come off of a maple tree...except for bbq...and I love 'em all. I really love some of the ones posted in this thread, like Buckwild's, BB's and Flameburst's (one of my favorites). And to me, the more pronounced the flame, the better, so I tend to like many of the guitars from the mid '90's, and many from '07 as well.

The best flame is the one that sounds good and comes home with me. Doesn't really matter what it looks like...

Thanks. Yes, some call it BBQ. I prefer "pinstripe" for mine (thin flame) as I tend to think of BBQ as a slightly wider flame. Anyway, it's really a matter of finding one that speaks to you (and don't worry about what anybody else thinks - unless you're only buying for resale). My CS-356 and Classic Antique both have slightly wider flames than the Custom. I like 'em all. And like Pinefld said, Buckwild's is a nice looking top as well.

Re: Great Flame...a lesson on selecting a nice R9 flame

Here is my '05 R9, the color is washed out in the directsun, it's really an iced teaburst. I don't know what to call this type of flame, it's not my favorite but it's what I could find at the time.

Re: Great Flame...a lesson on selecting a nice R9 flame

mmcquain, love the tight flame pattern.

Has the look of top-shelf furniture...the vintage VERY expensive kind.

Gorgeous.
