Score! Jimmy Page Custom authentic!!

Finally!

At last got my hands on a JPP custom authentic - It's awesome - the original owner hadn't touched it at all, it's still got the factory strings and set up on there! In fact does anyone know what strings gibson shipped with these guitars?

Very light weight - close to 8lbs

Over the moon!!

House rules and here's a pic to prove it!

My guess is the original owner bought it as an investment.
This mentality is the reason I have to hand over around $5,000 for an R9.

The factory strings are nothing more than Les Paul Sig strings, you can buy them anywhere so not nessicarily original strings......but maybe. I could put a set on mine and say look original strings. Not trying to spoil your party but the strings are nothing really.
LOL and I bet he did touch it. Enjoy it...............I play the shit out of mine, when I am able.

He was a really nice bloke but I think he was more of a huge Jimmy page fan rather than a guitarist, although he had strat as well. He had an absoloutely encycolpedic knowledge of every gig Zep played etc

I think he felt guilty as he was scared to play it but he was glad it was going to be cherished in its new home...

yeah well I can see your point but to be fair to this guy was honest in why he was selling it - "it deserved to be played"

yeah true but I raised it with him - he didn't use it as a selling point. He was a bit embarassed and wanted to put ernie Balls on there as that's Pagey's choice.

But it's just a point of interest.. They're starting to rust though so are only going to be on there for a couple of days before I change them which suggests he wasn't really a player. The reason I asked the seller in first place was because I was curious about the set as Liam had posted some good info on here about how exacting Page was on the set up for this guitar. I suppose it's as close to new as I could get and it was local and it was good price so I really lucked out! But I had been waiting for a while!

I don't think my party could be spoilt for 6 months now!

haha R9 that is the question isn't it!!

So far the answer is very very close!

The 50th feels a little tighter, better made even..
But the page seems to suit me more and definitely allows for more dexterity, I've also just sat and gawped at it...

Whatever order between them they're certainly first and second place best guitars I've ever played!

I think the 50th might be better for blues and the Page for rock. That said when I played the opening chords to the rain song on the page through my Mesa , the sound - on my! It was like I was on stage at madison square garden in '73!

very early days yet though and as I said the strings are rusting a bit so I've not compared like for like yet. Once I've changed them I'll have a better idea.

I thought I might try Ernie Ball 8's on initially to really capture the Page set up. Anyone got any thoughts?

Re: Score! Jimmy Page Custom authentic!!

Nice guitar congrats, beautiful top.
Any chance of removing the cover and taking some pics of the inside of the control cavity, (pots and caps) I am curious to see how it is wired. Does it have the single push pull in the bridge tone position that does the phase mod. or 4 push pulls, or the 6 way "stick-shift" toggle switch?? Thanks, jonesy

Yes I will get around to that at some point soon.

One thing I'm considering is changing the wiring so that in and out of phase is switchable - like the real #1. Can anyone recommend any parts? I've heard Hoagland Brothers supply good stuff, can anyone comment?

Parts? You've already got a push/pull in it, haven't you? I'm not too clever about electronics but surely it could be wired how you want it using the parts already in the guitar?

Nice score, BTW. One day I'll have one of those...

...but probably not until after my sons graduate university.

Re: Score! Jimmy Page Custom authentic!!

lol haha! my son's 18months so got this in before I needed to start saving for that! plus I had to head off the possibility the money could go on a new suite or double glazing or even heaven forbid furnishings!

Wiring - Possibly, I need to look into it but it would be nice to have the phase switch for the peter green type sound and the in phase whole lotta love sound while still being able to split the back pup..

I will be taking great care I don't botch anything with this. No plans to sell on and I'll keep all the orig parts so I should be ok...

Hi the guitar is hard wired out of phase the push pull just splits the back pup into single coil. Check out jimmyace's videos that demo the sounds
