Measuring pick up height question
When I measure pick up height using the standard factory settings do i go 1/16th inch and 3/32 inch from the screws on the pickups or from the plate?
I recently played around with R8 pickups and i am fining that where they originally were was best. It just doesn't seem right what ever I do to them. Do most people actually play around with their heights? thank you |

Re: Measuring pick up height question
I've got my neck dialed in pretty well but my bridge still has to much bite so I am constantly messing with it, seems like no matter where it's set I have to keep the tone around 8 or so. Have you tried adjusting the polepeices? That made a huge difference on my neck pup.

Re: Measuring pick up height question
String depressed at the last fret (closest to the PUs), Measure from the top of the pole screw to the bottom of the string.
I do play with them and always seem to go slightly lower (larger distance) than factory spec for optimum balance and tone (to my ears). I find this true for humbuckers and single coils. They just sound "sweeter" to me that way although the output is reduced somewhat. |

Re: Measuring pick up height question
What everybody else said, just tinker around with them until you get
what you looking for. One of my favorites is the 500T in my Classic. I would have thought the distance would be greater on that one opposed to like a 57. But actually, it's closer (for my preference?) go figure |

Re: Measuring pick up height question
that's not really a bad thing IMO. Mine's roughly the same, I usually keep it around 7 or 8. But there are times I feel the band is walking all over my frequencies, and that high treble leaves me a bit of wiggle room to project a solo.

Re: Measuring pick up height question
Yeah and I play with fingers so I can lighten my attack and pick nearer the neck and darken the tone a bit, that leaves the brightness in the bag for when the need arrises.
