Classic 92 or 60's Reissue? help!

hi, this is my first post, could anyone confirm if my Classic Plus 92' is or isn't an early 1960 Reissue (83-93) serial No 2 5147, inside bridge pickup cavity is printed REISSUE and i think very faintly it reads M R in the neck pickup cavity, and it also has the short neck tenon, i will get pics on asap in the mean time look forward to any response, cheers Ted

If it is stamped "Reissue" it is either a 1992 1959 Flametop RI or a 1992 1960 Flametop RI (the 1960 would also have a "R6" stamp)

info i have gathered so far states that the R0 stamp in the control panel came into affect in 93, so all i have to go on is the serial No and reissue stamp!

Will know more with some pictures. You very well could have a pre-historic. Either way they are great guitars.

Re: Classic 92 or 60's Reissue? help!

You have a 1992 Flametop Reissue. In 1991 they became either 59s or 60s. You are right, the R0 stamp came out in 1993 in theory, but the first R0 was made in 1994, they made ONE R0 in 1994. They made about 20 in 1995, and about 50 in 1996. In 1997 they started having reflectors, and later, double ring tuners.

They made 50 R8s in 1994. In 1993, they were all R9s or R7s....no one ordered a R0 in 1993 as far as I know.

The 1991-1993 prehistoric 1960 Flametop Reissues had a R6 stamp in one of the pickup cavities, not to be confused with the Historic 56 RI which has a R6 stamp in the control cavity.

Re: Classic 92 or 60's Reissue? help!

If it has a "Reissue" stamp, it is a 1992 Flametop reissue, and without the R6, it is then a 1959 Flametop Reissue. Its value depends entirely on how attractive the top and color is. A nice preHistoric Flametop usually sells in the $2500-$3000 range. A Classic plus, about $800 less. But with the "Reissue" stamp, it is not a Classic. mid 1991-mid 1993 Classics USUALLY have a "Classic" or "Classic Plus" or a "LPPP" stamp.

You can call Gibson right away at 1-800-4GIBSON (1-800-444-2766) and they'll be able to tell you right away what model it is as well as the production date.

I have a '60 Reissue from 1992. Although it is stamped LPR6 in the cavity, I still called them to make sure.

Here's mine:

Thank you! Sorry for not responding earlier; after replying to this post, I decided to pull out that guitar and played it for a little while...

Mine has LPR6 (Les Paul '60 Reissue) and HB (Honey Burst) stamped in the cavities.

From Ireland try dialing 00 800 444 2766 1 per Gibson's support page.

If that doesn't work, try 00 1 800 444 2766.
