Stop bar & humbuckers

Other than the Jeff Beck Oxblood, has there been another historic with humbuckers and no bridge?

Re: Stop bar & humbuckers

Are the historic series supposed to be historic? It would seem weird for them to make a "reissue" of a guitar that was never an "issue" in the first place.

That's what I keep saying about the "68 reissues". They aren't even close - in spirit OR execution... perhaps they just don't want to spring for tooling on withchat knobs? OR can't find it in them to leave the dot off the "i" in their logo? AND, they NEVER put the Fretless Wonder frets on the Customs. What's up with that? Wrong, wrong, wrong!

THis may be true, but I don't want them to change the '68 Customs, they are some of the best guitars Gibson makes and knowing Gibson they would mess something up in the process.

+ a billion. I know they don't have jack to do with real '68s and I couldn't care less. Call them something else if you want.

Re: Stop bar & humbuckers

I like the 68 RI too - though I've never seen an original to compare them to.

But the Tonequest R4 is a nice one, and really rare. Isn't there, in some museum somewhere, the very first Les Paul to have humbuckers? The actual prototype - I thought it was dated somewhere between late '53 or early '55, a goldtop with a wrap-around bridge - with a pair of the very first PAFs. Someone here has to have seen it ... been looking around for a picture or some facts but I'm coming up empty. I think the pickups had non-adjustable pole-pieces and the covers were solid ... anyway, I had the idea that the Tonequest R4 run was a kind of tribute to that guitar, but I wouldn't want anyone to quote me on it.

That's it! Thanks very much for finding that. Beautiful old guitar, isn't it?

Re: Stop bar & humbuckers

I've seen an R4 Goldtop with Humbuckers at a local store where I live.I'm pretty sure it's not labeled at a Tonequest LP.

Gibson just seem to randomly make one offs,I see them all the time.
