My R9 - newbie

Hi - I am a newbie here (just discovered the Forum) so I thought I'd post a few pictures of my beloved 2008 VOS R9. It is Sunrise Teaburst and is fitted with Bare Knuckle Mule pups with aged covers. Lovely vintage tone. Weight is 8 lbs 13 ozs.

I understand this is an unusual colour for an R9. Is that right? Manufactured February 2008.

Looking forward to participating in the Forum.
John

The BEST amp I have ever owned in 30 years......... I've had Marshall, Boogie, Fender etc then along came Blackstar. The Series1 is an amazing piece of kit - does everything from Clean to Metal. 2 channels, 4 voices. Highly recommended.

And........... it LOVES the Les Paul. Fender Clean/Tweed setting on 1 channel and JCM800 on the other. Best of both worlds.

I bought the guitar from a very reputable dealer here in UK called Vintage & Rare Guitars. They are not a Authorised Gibson dealer but hand pick their Les Pauls from various sources, mainly US. They told me that they'd sourced my R9 from a Gibson premier dealer in Arizona and they knew it was a very limited run in that colour (Sunrise Teaburst) so that was one of the reasons why they bought it in. As soon as I saw it I had to have it - amazing flame and such a wonderful colour. Not as brash as washed cherry and not as dark as tobacco burst etc. It's very like a PRS finish actually. Apparantly none of these were officially imported into the UK as it was about the time that Gibson changed their UK distribution arrangements from Rosetti to Gibson UK direct so I was very lucky to get it. I would love to find out from Gibson how many they made at the time. How do I go about finding that out? I assume this forum knows that sort of thing?

Thanks very much for the comments anyway.

We are starting to see the Pearly Gates Les Pauls here in a few stores in UK - crazy money but they look beautiful. Anyone out there got one?

She's a beauty John. Were the Bare Knuckles on when you bought her?

I'm always looking (and dreaming) at the Vintage & Rare site.

No -it was fitted with the standard issue BB1 and BB2 pups. I'd had Mules before on a previous Les Paul so had no hesitation in getting them swapped out straight away. The Mules are the closest you'll get to an original PAF and just compliment the guitar perfectly for me. Highly recommended.

V & R have some great guitars. i was in their Denmark Street store in London this week - they have a Tom Murphy aged R9 in there for about £6,000.......... amazing.

Cheers - when I first bought it and took it home it looked a completely different colour to what I saw in the shop and I thought .......... "oh shit - what have I bought?"............ but soon realised that is the beauty of a great flame top - it's ability to look different from every angle. In fact, it's almost impossible to capture it's true color in a photograph. My band mate has a PRS in a very similar colour but it doesn't have the "depth" of the Lester (and, of course, nowhere near the tone

BTW - have any of you guys seen that wonderful video of a true 59 Les Paul tone by the German blues guitarist - Gregor Hilden? It's just amazing. I listen to it every few weeks just to wallow in the sound. Have a peek at
- the first 50 seconds or so are just AMAZING!!!!

Yeah - know where you're coming from. I found the Bath shop to be very friendly but Denmark Street a bit snooty as you say.

awesome looking guitar...That color is perfect

That tone in that vid is great! I hate saxophones, there is no mixing them into a song where they are not just drowning everything...
