Did you put the new vintage inlays in your 58 Mikey, if so that could make for some bigger flames.

Re: R8, R9, R0 neck profile comparison.

Billy, It is true that you can get a basic idea of the neck size of the various reissues by looking at averages of several guitars in each R year. I would caution you though that neck sizes can vary greatly within the same R model year. When you get ready to buy you need to make sure you get the exact neck measurements for the guitar you are interested in purchasing if you buy online. I'm on my fourth R8 and the neck sizes have varied from absolute baseball bat to fat to R0 size. My current R8 neck measures .828 to .957. I believe this guitar is definitely out of the realm of normal R8 neck sizes but as you can see you can't assume anything.

since the necks are hand shaped, they will vary. You won't get size 'X' from such and such a year.

How do you measure the fretboard radius? Are there measurements to specify how "fat" (from top of board to back of neck) a neck is?

You need to buy or make a radius gauge. Stew Mac sell them.

That will be what people are quoting here, and Beauty of the Burst has a lot more. The widths have never varied much. Trouble is that this isn'y the whole measurement, there is a lot of profile in the "shoulders", if that makes sense.

I grew up on......dare I say it.....a Strat copy. So I bought an R0 to get the thinnest neck for that familiar comfortable feel. R8's feel like a baseball bat compared to it. Different strokes for different folks.
