Re: Flame top vs Quilted for a R9??
OK, flame me, I like the quilted much bettah! Flames are way overdone, and seen everywhere. I was test driving the R58's, and I got to see the qulited top up close and personal. I didn't touch it as the price was more than I was willing to pay, but I left the store dreaming about a qulit top one day

Re: Flame top vs Quilted for a R9??
I dig a flametop for tone, since it's a stressed tone wood. Some believe that this adds complexity to the overall tone. ?? As far as appearance go, I dig a mix of figure. My '01 R8 has a blister/quilt/flame mix, and I dig it.

Re: Flame top vs Quilted for a R9??
I think some quilts can be dramatically beautiful, but I really prefer flame.
Also, quilts only come from Western Maple, so to stay more historically 'correct' I prefer Eastern. |
