Pickup difference help
Can someone offer some info on the difference between the Gibby 57 humbuckers and the burstbuckers? How do you physically tell the difference?
It seems some historics came with 57's and some with B/B's....any rules to that? Thx! |

Re: Pickup difference help
Japan got them first. They appeared in the US market in 2000 on the Gary Moore. Mid 2001 they were on the R8s and R9s, and by 2002 on the R7s. The earliest had polished magnets and no "wound by" stickers, they started using rough cast magnets sometime in 2001 (57 Classics are polished magnets) and certainly by 2003 they all had the "wound by" stickers. If you have rough magnets, they are burstbuckers, if they are polished, they COULD be early burstbuckers, but then you would have to measure the individual coils to tell if they are 57 Classics or Burstbuckers ( the burstbuckers have unevenly wound coils) Burstbuckers through 2004 used PE wire, and starting in 2005 use poly wire (colored to LOOK like PE!!)
