Re: New Jimmy Page Sig?
Still, if you want to play something that sounds close to the original guitar he played in the studio, it is nice to have the coil splitter on the LP to make it sound more like the tele he used when he recorded the Stairway solo; and then if you want to break into a different song in which he used a LP with full humbuckers, you can easily do that without having to change guitars. So the versatility of it makes it very desirable, no matter if he did it during LZ or after LZ.

Re: New Jimmy Page Sig?
I called Gibson customer service today & asked for any info they could provide on the guitar. All they said was what was posted on the note on the wall next to the guitar in the pic. They said they have no info on the guitar, when it is going to be available, how much $, whether they borrowed Jimmy's #2, Murphy aging, etc. NOTHING. Do you think they are being cagey in order to drive up the price?

Thye "debate" is about #1, & it's really not much of a debate: Jimmy has always said 59... Joe Walsh (who sold it to him) said 59 too, IIRC... Gibson said 59 after they'd had their hands on #1 to duplicate it for the sig series... The only person with a direct connection to the guitar that has called it a 58 was Tim Marten (him again... ) Page's tech from the '80s. He called it a 58 it two magazine interviews he gave & that has been re-cycled over & over & over by people who've never even seen the guitar. However you look at it that's 3 votes to 1 for 59, even before you start to add in "observational evidence", like the double white PAF etc. |

Re: New Jimmy Page Sig?
I just got off the phone with one of my sources who sells A LOT of guitars. He did not have any new info on the guitar. But he did tell me that several of his high rolling buyers have already contacted him to get on his list to buy one of these guitars. Looks like they will sell out quickly.

Re: New Jimmy Page Sig?
I wanna see Fender issue a jimmy page Tele. I mean Gibson is really kinda pushing it with this one, I think the red top lester is way more deserving.

Re: New Jimmy Page Sig?
Over the last week I talked to two different Guitar Centers about this one; both took my number & said they would contact their buyers & call me back. Neither has done that. and both have gone past the time when they said they would call me. No surprise. They won't follow up. CLOWNS! I called Gibson customer service today & spoke to Bob Burns. Bob is a good guy. But he had not even heard of the guitar. He put me on hold after I told him it was shown at NAMM with a sign that said "Coming Soon". He took my email address & told me he would contact the custom shop for more info & get back to me. He usually follows up, but he will probably say they don't know anything. LIES! Gibson is full of crap!

Re: New Jimmy Page Sig?
This is what I got from Gibson today:
Thanks for calling Gibson. Custom Shop does not have specifics currently available on production numbers or the ship dates yet, but says they do intend to release this model later this year. Thanks. |

Re: New Jimmy Page Sig?
Wasn't there supposed to be a heap of famous 59'ers that would be replicated this year because of the 50th anniversary of the '59 model ?
Gibson has had several geets over the years with with uncovered double crème DiMarzio humbuckers, so it's not unthinkable that they'll drop one into number two. Hm, that might be the explanation for the weird 36th anniversary model of the DiMarzio PAF ?

Re: New Jimmy Page Sig?
Was supposed to be May-June 2009. Now I am thinking later in the year. I think they are waiting for the economy to improve. They won't say anything. They are a bunch of chumps!

Re: New Jimmy Page Sig?
I sold my JPP and one of my Murphy aged Jimmy Page guitars. So nothing to sell next week. Although there might be a guitar that looks like an Ace Frehley guitar for sale in the next week or so!

Re: New Jimmy Page Sig?
I have a signed / played version reserved at GC as well. I do not plan to get any of the others. After this one, I may be on the hunt for an Ace Frehley custom shop guitar from 1997. Or maybe a Page black beauty at some point.

I would avoid the Page BB, I never could get used to the middle pickup in the way, and resale is not very good from the ones I have seen sell lately.. Plus the neck is not shaved which I figured you would avoid at all costs
