I remember seeing back in say 94/95 the MSRP was $4299, the MSRP on mine was $10,313.00 of course we all know thats a crock. Mine is an 06 and bought in 06. I dont think, but I could be wrong the MSRP was ever $4800/5500 on one.

Run that by me one more time. I wanted this set as to early 70s type, back when I was at a show he was using the double white, I'm giving away my age but thats no secret. I probably went to damn near every show in my area way back when, from dallas to denver and everywhere in between. tickets were always $7 to $25, I made so much money back then just selling tickets. I'll see if I can find any of my old stubs.

It's true, don't remember when it was done though or if he actually kept it. I think Tim Marten (one of his techs) was the one that mentioned it, possibly the one that did it too. I'll try to find an exact quote.

I have age enough for that but they never came to my country...when there was a possibility Bonzo died

I haven't seen you much on this forum. I don't know where you've been hiding, but, thank god you came out. You have a sweet collection of LP's. The Page is to die for. The finish is awesome. You have to get him his brother, #2. I'm gonna get #2. One day I'll have to get #1. I missed my chance last year. It had a refret job that I was a little scared of...

Cool brother, my girls are 23, and have drove me insane for 23 yr's. I guess it never gets any easier.
We do need some #2s if they are winners, just have to wait and see.

Re: New Jimmy Page Sig?

I bet they are not showing the front because it is his #2 reissue so its probably more of a brown tobacco then a cherry burst. People always expect the cherry burst page. Its probably just the surprise that its his #2 reissue.

Either that or its a giant photo of his face on the front.

Did anyone ever get a picture of the front of the Page #2? The back looks good, but most people don't get that view of guitars.

Yes, it was Tim Marten.

Here's the quote, from a 1986 interview with Steve Rossen:

"SR: The Les Paul lends itself better to the bowing than the Telecaster or a Stratocaster?
JP: It works on them all, really.

[Tim Marten interjects that it relates to the ‘Physical aspects of the curvature of the bridge.” To this end, Marten sawed the Les Paul bridge to create a more violinesque-type housing and raising the strings to allow for more accurate bowing.]

Yeah, he did that. And it was purely because it was so hit-and-miss. Sometimes it would be dead on and then you wouldn’t change a thing and it wouldn’t work. Last night [referring to The Firm's performance at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida] I didn’t think it came off at all. Not as well as it should have done. It’s almost like pulling at it and that’s alright but when the bow just goes right across the strings it doesn’t work. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t—but you’ve got to try it."

I belive it to have been a short lived experiment.

For one thing, when the radius of the strings doesn't match the radius of the bridge it has a detrimental effect on the playability.

For another, photos of the guitar have never (to my knowledge, anyway) shown any visible signs of alteration.

And for yet another, Page gave up using #2 for bow work when he got the Roger Giffen copy. That one became the bow guitar. At the O2 show he used #2 in regular tuning as one of the main guitars of the night, then switched to either the Giffen or one of the reissues for Dazed & Confused & the bow solo.

Why do that if #2 had the "bow bridge". It wouldn't add up.

I'm fairly certain he had some mods on his les pauls I know #1 during zeppelin, such as the coil splitter, and out of phase when in the middle position. As for the series/parallel and all the splitters and things under the knobs idk.

AFAIK there is no evidence of him pushing or pulling knobs during the '70s. Just turning.

Im fairly certain he had nothing special during Zeppelin, unless a t-top is special.

No he didn't.

#2 was modified before #1, and that was only in the early 1980s. There was a feature on his guitars in Guitar Heroes Nov 1982 issue (IIRC) that has become the prime source material (directly or indirectly) for just about every subsequent article or website about his guitars. The writer had hands-on access to the guitars himself. He was the author who first revealed the mods that #2 had got. As far as #1 went the only mods he reported were the chrome, not nickle, cover on the bridge pickup & the white (ie non vintage) selector switch. That was all.

During Zep days the Les Pauls were stock. The slightly out of phase sounding quack to the mid position on #1 was basically down to the mismatch of pickups - PAF in the neck, T-top in the bridge from mid/late '72 onwards - and the amps he was using (Marshalls with KT88s).

I really, really like that Page of yours. I think it's one of the nicest ones I've had the pleasure of seeing. How does it sound when you're in single coil mode? To be honest my LP Custom Lite with factory split coils on the bridge pups is weak and a little noisy. Please tell me that isn't the case with the Page setup?

Also, do you or anyone else for that matter think Gibson isn't showing the top because it's going to have the little buttons under the pickguard like his real #2?

Also, there is still some debate online as to what his #2 is, some maintain it was a 58 others say a 59. I guess we'll see what Gibson calls it whenever they finally release it. Sure hope they have them by the time the Dallas International Show comes back to town in April. I WANT TO SEE THAT AXE!

Re: New Jimmy Page Sig?

#2's serial no. is 91703, it's a '59 unless there's some neck swap nobody ever knew about which is highly unlikely. And then of course there's the white PAF, one of the reasons #1 is more than likely a '59.
