New Bigsby Day. 1957RI Black Beauty
Thanks to all who voted (see older post) ... I added the Bigsby and Vibramate and this is what I got.
Maybe a slight change in tone and maybe a slight loss in sustain ... very hard to tell ... new setup and tweaks on pole pieces on pickups.

Re: New Bigsby Day. 1957RI Black Beauty
Very nice! When I first found vibramate I bought a Bigsby and love switching it on and off every couple of string changes to mix things up a bit. I really dig it on a black beauty especially with the three pickups! It must weigh a ton but I'll bet it's worth every back ache huh? SWEET!!!

Can you tell me how the Volume and Tone controls work with 3 Pickups
Thanks

Nice. I just put one on my black beauty as well. Stuck a roller bridge on for the hell of it too. How are you liking the Bigsby on it?
Here's mine, I changed the knobs to reflectors because I like them better.

Re: New Bigsby Day. 1957RI Black Beauty
The set up on my LPR7 Black Beauty is
1) Pickup selection on Rhythm, the top volume and tone controls the neck pickup (I think it is BurstBucker 1). 2) When the selection is in the middle position, the bottom volume and tone controls the middle pickup (BB1) and the bridge pickup (BB3??); I read that the middle pickup is connected out of phase. 3) When in Treble, the bottom volume and tone controls the bridge pickup. There is no other combination. I was a bit disappointed as I felt there was less flexibility since there is no neck / bridge combination. I also read that other LP BB owners with three pickups re-routed their wiring to control each pickup with the volume and then only one master tone knob. Then others have installed coil-split knobs to cpntrol on/off for the pickups to enable more tone variety. I also read people just disconnected the middle pickup altogether. Anyone out there can share their experience on any of these set ups? I was slightly disappointed, but it plays and sounds geat. |

I know I felt really guilty pulling the guts out of my black beauty, but I really like the tones I get now compared to stock. I mean I still have everthing, but she's not a virgin anymore...
