I do believe all the 68 RI's have a 5A Top. Now I'm wondering exactly how many special runs of the 68 RI were done?!

Hey Boles what year did they start running the 68 RI?

shannon might that 68 RI be a Swamp Ash?

Crap, I'm not sure. The first time I remember seeing one was around 2000. It was in a magazine ad for the then new Custom Authentics.

Hello
I don't think it's swamp ash.It was $10 500 AUD but with the economy it went UP by $2000.It's got one of the nicest quilt tops i've ever seen though.

Well if it's listing at $13,000.00 AUD that would make it $8811.95 USD; still that's pretty darned high for a '68 RI? Even with shipping rates and customs. Wow!

Even at $10,500 AUD that still puts it over $7,000 USD... too much!

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!

What do you guys thinkof the 57 classics in these baby's ?
I love the SD's in my Slash Goldie. Worth changing? Dirty Fingers maybe? Or leave stock and get another axe to mod.
Im kinda loathe to mess around with the 68 too much, cos its such a beautiful guitar

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!

I see no reason to change the '57s in either of mine. They're really the only Gibson pickups I like.

That's your call, just keep the originals.
If you do decide to change them out, are you going
to put the dull nickel covers back on?
I think it would be a shame if you didnt. IMO!

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!

Thanks for the comments.

Yes ill defo keep the nickel covers and the original pickups whatever happens.
To be honest, the more im playing it, i think the 57's character suit the guitar down to a tee, as do the SD's in the Slash GT.

I think im gonna keep her just as she is.

Cheers all

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!

Hey
I was at work today and noticed the price is $12 099 AUD.Still very expensive. That is retail though so I'd be taking a fair wack off that but everyone that see's it falls in love and then whinces at the price. We did just sell an Eric Clapton 335 for more than 30k though. That was in the store for about 2-3 years.

The ebony 68 I got from him did not have the weight. Only because he
unboxed it, opened the case, and that's it.
The R0 I just picked up has the weigth. He has a bitchen high-tech scale
at his shop. He weighs them and put the lbs on a paper tag which he places
on the upper strap peg.

The reason I bring all of this up is this. I bought a digital bathroom scale a
week ago. Weighed the R0 to check how close it was.
it isnt close at all

I knew they varied, and for a persons weight, who cares about a lb one way
or the other, but for my lp's, it's just junk.
