Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!

wonder what people do with the original cases?
why would you want a CS with no case? duh!
whoever that is, they're way out of line on the price. IMO

It comes with a case just not the original... really no big deal since it's not a Vintage LP but for the price he's asking and how he points out everything else is "Original"... wheres the case?

This guy just listed this '74 LPC a few weeks ago, it still hasn't moved... and he's in Ohio and we all know how hard they have been hit with this F'd up economy.

NO WAY I'd pay $4600 for that axe!

Keeping my eye on it though!

I can see maybe half that. Wasn't '74 the first year for White/Creme?

daaaaamn! what an eye candy. those guitars look great. I think the only year when I can say "I like absolutely all finishes nearly the same!" great, great stuff, unfortunately pretty rare though

Yeah, it can be quite a pain to find what you're looking for.

Yep '74, pretty sure was the holy grail year for the White Customs.

I got a hold of my GC homey and have him on the case, searching the data base for the '68 RI in White! I'll keep ya posted!

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!

OK just got off the phone with my GC guy and he tells me Gibson does not make the 1968 RI LPC in Alpine White.

They come in the Tri-Burst, Washed Cherry, the Antique Natural, and the three SwampAsh like 3Step has (BurbonBurst?), and yes Boles BLACK too!
The price is up to; now they're selling the '68 RI at $3899.00!
Cripes 7 months ago I paid $3499.99 for mine!

He said "you can get a regular Custom in Alpine White, with the 'Ceramincs' in them, and it has the 60's neck profile". I like the Ceramics myself nice HOT PUP, great for the pinch harmonics!
They were in a Classic I played back on the 4th of July but opted for my G0 instead.

So I says' to my GC homey... ummm what's the tenon size Yo on the new LPC in Alpine White? He had no idea what I was talking about so I explained to him the long tenon used in the RI's as opposed to the short tenon in everything else and why the RI's are so sought after, most likely jacking the price as it has over the past 6 months! I love the dude, he's more like a brother than a friend but geez he's managing a GC from cripes sake!

He told me he was going to call his Gibson rep too find out what he could but I know the rep will tell him the same thing I just did.

Oh well I guess it's back to searching for that '74 Alpine White LPC at a sane price? I'm not gonna mess with the '68 RI LPC BB since I already have the 1969 LPC BB.

First LP - 2008 Custom 1968 Reissue

I beg to differ. I dont doubt your GC source, but gibson isnt going to give its best stuff to whore stores like GC and SamAss.

These white ones are just really really really hard to find used or on the internets...

Curious, I remember that thread and replied myself. I'm just wondering what identifies it as a '68 RI since the OP only wrote it's is his new LP?

I see the tuners are different than on my '68 RI and Boles '68 RI(s) <--- i just love adding that little (s)! The color is definately Cream but it could have been White at one time?

I thought we were looking for '08 '68 RI LPC's in White, but my bud say's they don't come in White. I'll send him this link to that thread, I'm just wondering if it's an older '68 RI?

Check with your boy Saul tomorrow and please let me know what he say's... if they do make the 2008 '68 RI LPC in White I WANT ONE and I know a certain GC manager who's got alot of 'splainin' to do! I'm thinkin' the employee discount would make things right!

EDIT: ok I see now in the Thread Title it say's 1968 RI... now I'm just wondering what year that LPC is?

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!

hemply- he says its a 2008. im going to do a few things tomorrow. talk to saul, call gibson, and ask them what the difference is between the 68 RI and a regular custom other than the finish and hardware. or you guys can help me out. They both play well enough to me, and I just really need to figure out if that extra pocket lettuce is going to be worth that guitar.

also, when i say white, i mean cream. I think thats what finish the 68RI comes in. That offwhite color.

I think one difference between a '68 RI and regular Custom would be:

The RI has a long tenon neck... the reg Custom would not. They may not have this info if you call in to Gibson Cust Care. Every time I've call they just gave me the basics... year, model, finish.

Now I'm REALLY Curious!

Damn you Les Paul Degenerates!

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!

I think they're going for the Randy look with the creme ones. That explains the knobs, but I dunno why they go with Keystone Grovers. The few pics I can find of Randy's didn't even have Grovers.

That's what I'm saying Boles... something just doesn't look right to me there?
Not in a bad way as we both know there is no such thing as a bad LPC RI or not... but it would make things a whole lot easier if Gibson just made every model in every finish and they all came out perfect from the factory, and little guitar fairies would come down every night clean, polish, change the strings for me too!

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!

What I've noticed with these is that they have to be the most consistent things to ever come from the Custom Shop. Every single one that I've played has been nothing short of excellent. Even the GC skinny necked tri-bursts are killer. They should come in every color!

Have you ever seen a black-burst before?
dude said there were 4 made?

Maybe there one-off's like the white 57's Saul had?

I'm going to keep my eye on that one, but if the price gets too hight, no dice.
It's a toss up, I want a white one, but, that black-burst
would do just fine

bah. honestly once the drummer is in the mix is that long tenon going to make that much difference? Im just jonesing for a new LP...i want it soon!

and if its white, ill leave it in the sun, and then its creme. shouldnt be that hard?

anyways. if it was good enough for dan hawkins and randy rhoads, i think i will be just fine.

True, if it was good enough for Randy and Dan then it's GOOD.
The only thing about the "long tenon"... they are only used on certain models... not all models come with the long tenon and they basically stopped making the long tenon available when Norlin took over Gibson in 1969. In 1969 they began using the "Trans-tenon" for a short period until the "sort tenon' was the norm, and has been for decades.

Does it make a difference when the "drummer" comes in? That would be an individual decision... but let me put this out there... the drummer already laid his/her tracks in the recording studio when you come in to lay the guitar tracks. I dunno if my performance depends strickly on my abilities (without the rest of the band to "lean on") then I want all the HELP I can get!

Dude, believe me, I understand the G.A.S. associated with wanting a Les Paul. I have 3 LP's, one more badass than the next IMHO. All three I would be willing to sell an Organ first before giving one of them up!
I look at it this way. If you can afford to do it, then do it right! Nothing feels better than holding your LP, knowing you took your time to find "the one"; it's a lovely feeling as well as being mondo inspirational.

That's just me of course.
