Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!
That one has a nice top, Joey. Most of the ones I see in that finish have fugly tops.
![]() You and I lucked out with our tri-bursts. I ended up switching the plastic on mine.. ![]() I was thinking of getting the top refinished on it, but the creme plastic made it look a lot better, IMO. |

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!
the cream made it look pretty different, more of a guitar you want to pick up and play and noty a piece of furniture. Im thinking leaving it as is, but rtying regular black knobs like the ones that come on a custom. What do you think?

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!
Jim's Music has one in Triburst and one in Firemist (5A Quilts).
Saul's has one in Black and one in Aged White. And there's this R9 I'm scoping out... Decisions decisions...and you're not making them easier!!

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!
You might not like the frets; you could try a player grade 68 with a refret.......? There is something about the vintage that just makes me think it plays different & sounds different.

![]() Thanks for pointing that out. I've d notice that the guitar he plays was more of a bright like tangerine color burst. I bought this one (other one was natural) because of the 5pc flame maple neck, because i have not seen it on any 68 RI.

I think it is odd that they would put a multi-piece maple neck on a 68 ri. It is ironic b/c one of the main things that sets a 68 apart from late 70s LPs is the one piece neck made of mahogany. In the 70s, maple necks came out around late 75 -1976. multi piece necks came along in mid 69. So it looks like Gibson has decided to dress up a 70s type guitar like a 68. It is really nice. And I like the 70s guitars too. Have had them all! |

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!
[QUOTE=JimmyAce2006;697334]5 piece? Looks like the neck is 3 piece; are you referring to the 2 wings that are added on the head when you say 5?
That would make it seven pieces if I add the wings JimmyAce. There's two pieces of rosewood glued in between the whole entire maple neck. I bought it because it's different from the other 68, odd looking, like the late seventies and early eighties ltd run Paul. The mahogany is coming Friday, 07 VOS 57 RI , it's in Vegas now can't wait!

Ok, the lines are actually pieces of wood; I thought they were there as part of the paint. That is more pieces of wood than the 3 piece 70s version. Looks cool though. |

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!
I really like the White finish but the consistency is killing me... why do some have Kidney tuners and others have Keystone tuners?

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!
Ya, I thought Kidney's & reflector tops were kinda the 68 thang?
But when Bole got his white one, I noticed that as well. Who knows. |

Re: Let's see those 1968 Reissues!!
Most of the white ones have keystones and gold speed knobs. Some of them have kidneys and reflectors, keystones and reflectors, kidneys and gold speed knobs. It's only the white ones with this problem.
