Historic Custom Shop in Columbus, Ohio

Where would you go for historics, reissues, used guitars in Columbus, Ohio? Anyone know the town?

Re: Historic Custom Shop in Columbus, Ohio

Cherrick last time I looked (about 3 weeks ago) the Gibson Custom Shop had a link that listed all of their dealers on their website. So you can probably find one for OH I would think.

You could also send Benton an Email & ask.

Benton Cummings [Benton.Cummings@gibson.com]

Re: Historic Custom Shop in Columbus, Ohio

Sam Ash and Guitar Center are relatively close to each other on Morse Rd, near Easton mall and the airport. Might have 1 or 2, can always have GC ship in from another store if you find one online you would like to try, not sure about Sam Ash.

Musicgoround has mainly low end gear.

Not a lot of high end shops, mainly college kids selling their Epi's here.

Will try to find some shops nearby...but Columbus isn't a historic hotbed.

The Ohio Guitar Shows

There is a good chance that something will be at the Ohio Guitar show this weekend...

Columbus used to be known for all the small collector type shops with used gear... Now it is Sam Ash, GC, etc... You might try "The Fret Shop" or "German Village Music"...

Definitely check out the Ohio Guitar show at the Masonic Temple! There won't be another place in Columbus with more used guitars than that. Folks should be wheelin' and deal'n down there!

Re: Historic Custom Shop in Columbus, Ohio

I think most answers have been given, but another resource is the Fret Shop on 5th avenue. Great repair/tech shop and they have deep roots in the music community. They could probably be of great help in a local search.

There will be at least one at the show. Will you be in town this Sunday?

Re: Historic Custom Shop in Columbus, Ohio

The summer show is much smaller than the winter show, but still worth going to. I bought an R9 for a great price there a couple years ago.

NowGibson and RUFFCUT like this.

It was a great deal. The top was finely checked and the seller claimed it occurred naturally, however it looked to me like it had been done with freeze spray. Regardless, it came with a pair Throbak MXV 101s plus the original Burstbuckers, a Lifton case, vintage TRC, and all case candy. Asking price was $3800. I offered $3200 thinking we'd meet in the middle at $3500-$3600, but the seller said "sold" to $3200. I ended up selling it last year to help fund a vintage goldtop purchase although in hindsight I should have looked for money elsewhere because it was a fantastic guitar.

Re: Historic Custom Shop in Columbus, Ohio

Nice guitar. $3200 was a nice deal, especially with the extra pups. I took my R9 there today. I thought it was a pretty good turnout. Seemed like plenty of dealers there and there was steady foot traffic. Steady, but not asses to elbows, which was nice.

Cool. Did you have a table there? I didn't see many other Historics there. A few sweet real vintage pieces. One gold top had me drooling.

I didn't do a table this year.. I am fairly happy where I'm at and don't really want to get rid of anything.. (don't tell my wife I said that...!"
