deal breaker or not?

Hey together,

i have the chance to pull the trigger on a real nice R9 and the condition is really good and only has one issue, 2 small marks impressed to the fretboard, however they came there.

Would that be a deal breaker for you? The price is quite reasonable and the marks knocked of the price at around 700 $$.

Re: deal breaker or not?

No, not a deal breaker at all.

If people can play Vintage guitars with the usual Country & Western chord wear & tear on the board, this is nothing.

Now show us more...............................

Re: deal breaker or not?

If what I'm seeing is compressed wood (dents), then they can be steamed out fairly easily with a damp rag and a soldering iron. Let me know if you'd like more detailed instructions on how to do that.

How much would it truly cost at the end?

Re: deal breaker or not?

prices here in Germany can not be compared to the prices in the US of A, so whatever it may cost over here, it's higher than in the states

@Frank: thank you for the hint with the damp rag/soldering iron. I'll have to check if it's a dent or maybe the wood is chipped. Looks like dents to me

@River: is there a reason that you are always searching for something to pick on? We have one famous comedian here and one of his most quoted sayings goes like this: If you don't have any clou, simply shut the **** up

Re: deal breaker or not?

Wouldn't think twice about divots like that, unless the seller seemed worried about it, at which point I'd use it as a means to lower the price.

Without knowing the asking price if it's reasonable and he's knocking of another $700 because of the dents I'd jump on it.

yes, it's absolutely reasonable but not in a "too good to be true" way as long as there are no further problems, . I have not played it yet but will do.

now with all this positive resonance i hope i can fix that deal today or maybe tomorrow and will then -of course- disclose details

Silly...

we are talking about 2 minuscule impressions, that may well have been there since it was new, that even if they weren't there all along would take maybe, .002% off of the "mint scale". No one would ever be able to feel them, unless they already knew about them and then they would just pretend to feel them. 95% of people would never notice them. I know I wouldn't even give them a FIRST thought. They are a total non issue.

except if you can convince the seller that they are and that case he is an idiot but more power to you.

I would burst out laughing if someone tried to talk me down on a price over that.

Reminds me of a guy who complained because his fretborad was cracking all over...but it was just wide grained rosewood.

If the guy's dropping seven bones off of a reasonable price for those, I'd grab it. I'd be on that like white on rice.

Ha... generally true, but not always and probably not at the moment! If you avoid paying taxes, sure, but tax + the euro being down at the moment... I don't think you'd end up paying less.

I would seriously consider buying in Germany used. You'd get a better price, guaranteed.

Re: deal breaker or not?

All depends on price.

R9'S Aren't commanding the price they once did. Selling in summer ain't easy for US facing retailers for a variety of reasons (mainly less discretionary funds and family vacations taking a piece of what's there).

Understand your in Europe, but ultimately fed-ex can get a guitar there for under 200 bucks. Setting aside taxes for a minute, a used R9 can be had for 4k (and you'll have your pick of a few).

If its your run of the mill R9 and the price meets or beats that, fair price. If it's far above, I'd pass. Understood selection/availability aren't in your favor, but the internet is world wide and if there's money, you can get your pickof anything.

and go for money off on every single thing that might possibly be conceived as a fault.

There really is such a thing as being too honest and this seller is setting himself up to learn that lesson the hard way....he will get what he pays for though so if you can get another thousand off for the grain not matching up perfectly it will be money well "spent" for him.
