These days he plays his Strats and Carvins and I don't know if it's because his tastes changed, He can't find any decent LPs like his orig vintage models or what, but he's not the LP man he used to be. Why bother making a Sig model now especially when he owned so many over the years? How did Gisbon pick which to make a sig?
Actually, lately Joe has been playing Les Pauls. He has a one pickup LP flametop custom shop '59 model that he plays as well as a Goldtop reissue he uses live. He's using them again. Also he has not been playing Carvins much lately - lately it's been Ernie Ball Music Man's, Strats, Duesenberg's, and Les Pauls. Joe loves lots of guitars but he loves Les Pauls and is VERY deserving of this model. I mean Eric Clapton had a model, and he hasn't played a LP for a long time either until recently a few times, as well as some posthumous models and things. And a Keifer Sutherland model (). Joe deserves this. He's one of the very best players of all time and is an icon with the Les Paul.

Life's Been Good, Rocky Mountain Way, Walk Away, In The City, The Bomber, Turn To Stone, etc are all Les Paul tunes. Most think it was a Strat on Life's Been Good and it drives me nuts. It was a Les Paul and a Twin Reverb amp according to Joe and also his producer, Bill Szymczyk, has said the same. He's always used a humbucker guitar on that song except for when he went to the Strat anniversary concert and had to play only Strats of course, LOL.

Not to mention that his wife just bought him a '58 Goldtop LP so maybe that sparked the fire in him for LP's again. You can see him with it in last month's Guitar World magazine. It's his new favorite guitar.

Regardless, he's still a master of the Les Paul and a Les Paul man and the first guy I think of when I think of the Les Paul and players of that model. I'm sure many would say the same.

But as far as present day Joe - LPs, Music Mans (Axis, Silhouette, and Luke), Duesenberg's (Starplayer TV and Double Cat), and Strats are what he's playing. He still does have one Carvin he uses for slide though. But they seem to not be used much anymore. He did use mainly Strats and Carvins on the Eagles Farewell 1 DVD/Tour so maybe you are referring to that but his gear in general has changed a LOT since then. He used them when I saw the Eagles in '08 but all of the recent photos, videos, and comments it seems he's only using one. Also the occasional PRS model and Tele.

i dont think anyone is surprised they weighed it - i think it was just a comment that if you are going to represent some sort of meticulous process that implies some sort of accuracy, and then charge a nice little premium, maybe it wouldnt be unreasonable to expect to get the run within maybe a pound of the original?

im sure it it will be a nice guitar though - after all, the non-signatures are nice guitars!
Since I know nothing about the JPP guitars I can't comment on what Gibson did at that time . Just how far out of Spec were they ? To me it seems that Gibson as been trying to get closer matches for the tops on these guitars lately , which is an improvement . Like with Goldie , as i recall seeing that they were having problems getting tops instead of just using anything .

Gibson has been pretty good about the weights of the RI's and from the one's i've seen have not been really heavy . But remember, It is Gibson we are talking about and being acurate is not something at the top of the list of things to do . Getting your money is . Anyone care for a stinger ????

i was bringing up the jpp only because of the comment about people would complian if they didnt invesigate it fully...when it was revealed that they spent around 30-45mins with jimmy's original #1 people were up in arms. they supposedly did not even measure the pickups...and of course they got the wiring wrong.

i totally agree they have been trying to get better - i think the signatures/limited editions they did sine 2009, for example (pearly, #2, CC's), blow a lot of the earlier runs away...but, for some reason - and im guessing cost, weights dont seem to be much of a priority for them as long as they are sub-10 lbs.
