Kluson tuners interchangeable?

Does anyone perhaps know if the waffleback Kluson turners are interchangeable with the "regular" ones?

Thanks.

Re: Kluson tuners interchangeable?

JD, it looks like 2 different brands of tuners in the drawings, so no, I wouldn't think they're interchangeable. If, however, you changed between the stock tuners and the waffle backs, they should be interchangeable. my .02 YMMV

Well, the first example if from Stewmac's web site, and the second from Schaller's.

I want to replace the tuners on my R8 with the Kluson all-metal waffleback ones, but just wanted to know whether or not they'd fit. I don't think they will, actually. Oh well...

Re: Kluson tuners interchangeable?

They Probably won't fit. Besides the screw holes lining up with the one on the headstock you also hace to consider where the tunerpost is in relation to the screw holes. If the post on the wafflebacks is a different position on the tuner compared to the stock tuner, when you mount the waffle back the screw holes on the headstock will not line up with the ones on the tuner.

Yeah, these definitely don't seem like they'll fit. Too bad. I'll adapt and survive.

Re: Kluson tuners interchangeable?

Was thinking of putting them on my R8. I don't really like the regular Kluson tuners very much. Wish it had Grovers on it, instead, really.

i just replaced the old Kluson style Gibson tuners from a 82 Flying V by identically looking Schallers, because Gibson can no longer supply the correct looking with the double rings. Those tuners are installed with a threaded bushing from the front of the peghead and are made for a 9,8 mm hole which is found in this particular model.

They are just great! Fit and work perfectly, no extra holes to be drilled. Maybe they are available for the R series as well? I think the hole on that is some 6 mm of diameter

Re: Kluson tuners interchangeable?

Maybe it's time someone makes an historic announcement about the imminent release of a new breed of tuners that will be the best of the best, the true legend, with holes that will fit the holes left by all variants of kluson and grover tuners...
