R0 - Is this top hot or not ?
I like the color. Not sure about the big dead spot. If the figured top demands extra dollars, this one is I guess partially figured. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but what do yo all think ?

It looks like a drawing that got wet and ran. I don't like it.

Re: R0 - Is this top hot or not ?
Well, quite franlky.....I DON'T like the color....not a huge Lemon fan.
I agree with you about the bald spot, but the mineral streaks and some of the other figuring is VERY cool! The bass side and the trebble side (from the bridge pick up toward the neck) are UBER cool! Basically, the arm rest area is not good for me. If the fretboard was darker.......... ......this one is actually a tuff call......it would come down to price and playability for me, as a consumer. |

Re: R0 - Is this top hot or not ?
I've seen that one around the forums... favorite top I've ever seen on a reissue in my life. It's got like 3 different directions of figure. If you're gonna drop the cash on a reissue I'd expect a top of that quality. NOT one like that lemon R0.

It's and R0...that is a plus for me. The color is beautiful! The back and the neck have GREAT figuring.....love it! The fretboard is gorgeous and dark. I just can't get past the figuring on the top.......sorry, jhun! ![]() The OP's guitar could be bought with a re-fin in mind....I have never even considered re-topping a guitar....at any price. Having said that, if someone enjoys the "mustache" type of flame....that would be a BITCHIN' guitar for them! Remember, my opinion is worth what you paid for it!

Lol for the "mustache" comment. I thought of boomerangs when I first saw it. Another member here said it looks like wakes from a boat.

Re: R0 - Is this top hot or not ?
I think the lemon R0 looks authentic, I'd love to have it - not that I think it should cost the same price as a super flamey no dead spot beauty.
I think all the veneered ltds and epis have made me loose my appreciation for insane flame that looks too perfect.

Re: R0 - Is this top hot or not ?
i love the color, it's just right for me. As for the figuring i'm not sure wheater i like it or am just tolerating it. All in all a likeable guitar to me, not desirable.
The other one shown i totally dislike. The color, the quilt top, the shiny parts. Not a top for me. But that's just me and i like slight imperfection, mineral streaks, nicely visible grain..... Last edited by Sharky; 04-05-2012 at 07:32 AM. |

Re: R0 - Is this top hot or not ?
Not keen on the colour, but £340 and you can have any colour you want so that's not a problem.
Depends on your take. To collect and strum, hang on a wall, you'll probably want the best most pronounced uniform figure you can get for your money, especially if you're looking at future value/return. I'm more a player, and I really like the non-uniform figure, the streaks, and the 'plain' areas. If it had a huge neck I'd happily put it in the mix and gig the Hell out of it. And get the top redone of course. |

Re: R0 - Is this top hot or not ?
Love the wood, not the color. But it would look very authentic with aged hardware, and beautiful with a nice deep red 'burst refinish.

Re: R0 - Is this top hot or not ?
The OPs guitar is gorgeous IMO. Just because there is a "bald" spot in the one photo doesn't mean it'll look that way from a different angle. You've got to either see more photos or have the guitar in hand to see if the figuring isn't "peek-a-boo". I'd be willing to bet it's not a bald spot at all, there is so much going on around it.

Re: R0 - Is this top hot or not ?
Me likes, both the colour and figure, as well as the streaks. Much better than the perfectly uniform ones. If it was well aged, it would have loads of attitude!

Re: R0 - Is this top hot or not ?
Personally, I really like the OP guitar. As for the color, the photo may not be completely accurate. Is it a 2012 or late 2011? If so, it could be a very close relative to my very early CR8:

Re: R0 - Is this top hot or not ?
Bald spots don't always take away from the top. However, that particular top doesn't
look good to me. In reality, though, whether or not I like the top shouldn't really be a factor in whether or not you buy that guitar. IMO, If you're going to buy an expensive guitar, you should love it in every way. The fact that you made this thread tells me that you're not sure if you really like that top. If that's the case, I'd pass and wait for one with a top that speaks to me. |
