Help me decide my next purchase

Hi there folks, this is my first post here. Even though I'm a strat player after a few years of savings I've decided to treat myself with a Les Paul.

As many of you are more experienced on these ladies than I am I would quite like an advice.
I've searched and checked for some related topics but I'd like to know more.

I just love the finish on the RI LP's so I want something along Historic lines.
But I can't quite make my mind up. I just want a good looking warm sounding les paul :P

Anyone has anything to say to help decide my next purchase?

Do you like big necks, medium necks or slim necks? Flamed or plain top?

I'd say keep looking until 1 calls to you , and when you play her , It's never been better.
You will know the right one. She'll tell you .

you really need to go out and play it before you make your decision. Once that necks hits your hand you will know may the force be with you.

well I had a 2008 les paul standard which I sold , I quite like something with a bit more bite. I fancy fat necks.

On trying ,
it is quite hard finding these guitars on stock even though I live in new york city so not much luck there.

If you live in NYC, go to GC Manhattan. They always have a few historics there
that you could try. Also, Rudy's usually has a historic or two in stock.

Any of you know which model offers lightly figured top ?
I quite like the flame top but I don't want in your face grains.

Re: Help me decide my next purchase

Of the 3 reissues I have(R7 goldtop, R7 custom, R9 burst) the R9 plays like butter. With that said, I went to a couple shops in Los Angeles, and tried quite a few before deciding on that R9....

R9s, R0s, and R8s can all have "lightly figured tops". Tops vary on each
model. Generally, you will find R9s and R0s to have more flame, but there
are R8s with lots of flame as well. There are also R9s/R0s with more subtle tops.

Hard to go wrong with an R9...or R8 if you want an even bigger neck...

Re: Help me decide my next purchase

thanks for the replies guys, I think I've made my mind up on plain top R8. I'm gonna build a strat with the rest of the money xD. The flametop was just a bonus for me it's nothing important.
