Help me price this R9

2008 Excellent condition, some worming and one very, very slight scuff on edge near jack that would not photograph.

Buffed out gloss stickiness on neck.

Very Low mileage.

4 conductor BB wired for coil taps.

Re: Help me price this R9

Or, what have R9s been going for as of late. A 2010 with a nice top went for 5300 recently...is this average?

Re: Help me price this R9

I would guess somewhere between $4k and $4.5k.

Re: Help me price this R9

5300 is an average ask price for a really nice top, bordering on outstanding I would say.

Remember, asking isnt selling price.

For this guitar in question, without any of the mods, I would probably start out asking 4k as a private seller, as a shop I'd probably put it on my wall @ 4299 and the first guy with 4k cash would definitely be taking it home. Private sale, I'd be happy with 3800 I'd say..not much lower, but definitely no more than 4k.

Its very nice, but not 5k nice. There are a ton of used R9's out there, and while I personally would lean to a 2009 or later model, not everyone does. Depending on the seller and area of the country (or what country) they are in a fair price could be hard to determine.

Ranges I would say for a R9 are between 3600-5k for a basic (not a murphy aged, not a BRW model and just a good clean R9).

Myself I would bring up to the seller that the worming and wear, while not extreme, is going to be something every potential buyer is going to knit pick with them. Its a funny market out there for luxury items (which a 4k guitar is). Some areas of the country where you think these would be slow sales actually do well with them (supply and demand...if there is no supply, then the price will be higher even with a demand of just 1). Areas where you'd think quality guitars would sell quickly sometimes tend to be at the low end (again, ample supply with a ton of shops-and fewer cash buyers).

Hope this helps and BOL in your search.

Re: Help me price this R9

Just wanted to add, while this is a very nice guitar - I've seen several R8 Flametops from '01-02 vintage with similar tops.

I would ask myself as a buyer, what sets this guitar apart from those to justify the price. Sure, one has a 8 and one has a 9 on the headstock, but what else.

A good used R8 flametop with honest wear/dings commands 3200 or so, exceptionally clean is closer to 3800. My question would be is there anything that separates this that far from a R8 flametop to justify a premium above the high end range. If it does for you, then its worth more than that...if not, then theres a fair range I'd include in my offer to seller.

Just trying to give you another perspective to think from and negotiate with.

Someone was high when they paid that much. $35-$3800 respectively.

Maybe it's the flash, but that fretboard looks light in colour. Have you treated it recently?

I was offered an R9 for $4,300 when I was looking for R8s in 2010. Having said that, you may be better off getting a new one if you can't get a good enough deal on it. If you are concerned about the possible 2 piece fretboards see if the dealers will pull the nut(s) off what you might be interested in (2012 owners report 1 piece boards so far). I understand Brett from Eddies Guitars has killer deals so that would be a good place to start if you wanna possibly buy new....

Re: Help me price this R9

Hey guys. Thanks so much for the information. The guitar was actually turned into something else yesterday. I was going to offer it up to sell on here and was simply getting some insight as to what to ask for it, as I wanted to be as fair and realistic as possible.

Thanks!

Also, moderators you can delete this thread.
