2008 R7 Black Beauty
I'm watching this on ebay. Looks legit to me, but the seller claims that the case is the original one which came with the guitar when bought new...
Any warning lights? |

Re: 2008 R7 Black Beauty
She is, but did they ever come with those cases? I didn't think so, so I'm wondering why the seller would say that's the original case (seller says it was bought new).
Also meant to ask if the wiring looks original? |

Re: 2008 R7 Black Beauty
Thanks!
I thought they always came with the black custom shop cases... Received pot codes via email. Do they fit the scenario? "The Tone Pot codes i can make out are: R1379626 440 / R1379516 - the other 2 are obscured." |

Re: 2008 R7 Black Beauty
Joe, first off, the second digit in the serial number isn't an even an 8 and 454C3 mentioned the rest.
Read up on Gibson serial numbers before you start looking at guitars. And, from the looks of this thread, don't ask nicolasrivera for authentication. Jebus...

Re: 2008 R7 Black Beauty
No need for what? I just said you should learn how to read Gibson serial numbers before you spend any money.
First digit: 7 for 1957 Second digit: year made. 7 is for 1997 or 2007. If you knew that, you would have known this guitar can't be a 2008 before you started this thread.

From the serial number I thought it was an R7. Wasn't sure about the year, though. Funny that I then thought to ask the seller for the pot codes? They indicate 1997 as more likely. But those can be changed. Hence I asked whether the wiring looked original. I.e. I thought I knew what it was, but wasn't 100% sure. You may have meant it otherwise, but I read your post as being condescending. If not, then apologies. |

Re: 2008 R7 Black Beauty
Joe, I wasn't. The only person here I talk down to is nicolasrivera but he deserves it with all the crap I mean facts he used to post about 2001 R8s.
The pots on a 2007 R7BB would be completely flat at the back and it would have (fake) Bumblebee caps. The pots/caps in that guitar are probably the originals but you can tell just by looking at the solder joints that they have been broken. Most people who buy new historics probably keep the receipt. If you are still interested in buying this guitar, ask this seller to show it to you and prove he bought it new in 2008.

I don't know much about pots apart from the year|week way of deciphering their codes, but I have a 2006 R7 and it has the bumblebee caps. So yes, I expected this one to have them, too. I can't tell from looking at the solder joints whether they've been tampered with, so thanks for that. Ok, so by serial number and pot codes and the case it appears that this is a 1997 R7, but that the wiring has been tampered with at some point. I appreciate all the replies. The guitar is a bit pricey and what I don't like is when a seller states x, y, and z as fact when they're blatantly not. So we'll see about this one. I'll ask the seller for clarification. Thanks all. |

Re: 2008 R7 Black Beauty
definitely 1997 LPB7, pots('96 n '95) left over from that year and the guitar 4sale is an early 1997 and the brown orig case confirm this, not 2008 which everyone agrees, comes with black case.
