New R8 owner with a question.....
So I purchased my first Historic. It had been at the shop for a long time and I am the first owner. I think it is a 2007. I will get pics later since my camera is charging. My question is the finish. It is a washed cherry. The top is very nice and red but I am wondering about the back and sides. The back is a faded red. The neck is a bit faded but the sides of the body are faded a light brown...almost like a lightback R7. There is a shadow mark of red behind the top strap button. The jack plate shows some fading underneath. I took off the pickguard and switch chip and there is no fading there on the top. I did some searches on fading and it seems they don't really fade. The guitar was never in direct sunlight at the shop only under a flourecent light. It has some nice tarnish on the pup covers...rusty looking screws. It really looks the part of an original old guitar. I love the way it plays but am wondering if anyone has ever seen something like this. The look is kinda cool and seems to stand out from others I have seen.

They fade. Five years in retail storage? Anything's possible.
Post some photos, but not for analysis. Just share the joy, and knock off the second guessing.

Re: New R8 owner with a question.....
I know people pay extra for mojo. I think it is kinda cool myself. That is why I picked it. It was just odd to see the body faded on the back and not the top? Here are the sorta crappy pics:

Re: New R8 owner with a question.....
It was most likely exposed to sunlight in the store...
Forum member Bugman has an awesome faded Historic LP.

Re: New R8 owner with a question.....
Looks like my '04. In other words, drop-dead gorgeous. Mine's developed "fade" where it rubs on my denim-covered right thigh, and my oiled-canvas vest hits the upper side of the lower bout, too.
It's all good.

Re: New R8 owner with a question.....
Thanks man. I was kinda thinking the same thing about the looks. It looks old...if I am right, that is the whole point of having a reissue.....to have something that looks and feels like a guitar form the 1950's.

Oh I have been. I've been carrying it around the house with me like a blankie.
