NGD! my first historic....
yum.... my first historic...2nd Gibson... the first being a tribute 60s that I bought because of the slim neck.... now.... the exact opposite.... my new CR8 thanks to Curt at House of Guitars. some of the best service I've ever received buying something online. I;d highly recommend the HOG for anyone looking for a new geetar.
First I have say, I was afraid I'd get a giant baseball bat neck. I played a few R8s locally and actually found the becks to be rather comfortable. the more i played my DOT (which has a fatter neck than my Epi and Tokai lester) the more i liked a fatter neck. HoG assured me it wasn't a fat neck, but pretty average in the R8 line. Second, the burstbuckers, although were surprisingly articulate, sounded very mid scopped to me, so out they went and in went my skatterbranes. MUCH better. the BBs will now be going into my Dot. I originally wanted an Ice tea finish, but had trouble finding one I loved, so i took a gamble on this one, an Amber Orange Burst with figured top. the flames are very subtle and the Orange is not all that orage. it's quite similar to my old Honeyburst Epi with a splash of red and with a much nicer top. the color is actually reminiscent of the cover of beauty of the burst. I absolutely love teh mineral streaks and figuring on this top. this ones going to be a keeper I'm sure. Just can't decide if I want to slap some reflector knobs on it now. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: NGD! my first historic....
Thanks guys
![]() Tempted to sell off the rest of my guitars and get another historic.... This guitar sounds great. The low end is nice and round and tight. My epi was flabby down low and my tokai is a little loose as well. Going to gently sun fade it over the next few weeks and see if I can kill off a little of the redness, althigh I don't mind the top as is.

Re: NGD! my first historic....
doing that now.... Holy smokes.... These frets are great.... Even after a leveling my epi did not play this nicely. (I did however polish up the frets when I changed my strings and pups)
Bends are effortless on this guitar.

Holy sheeyit,blamo!
That just went to the top of my fave top and finish I've yet seen this year. Don't fade it. Don't change a thing. It's perfect. Yep. Think I may have to move a few slabs of wood and acquire a new Historic. The waitings killing me and you blokes posting these beauties ain't helping… |
