R8 Long vintage length studs and tailpiece. Tried a pair of MHD pickups, Total shit worse pickups ever used. Replaced with Rolph pickups sounds awesome.

Re: The Official Historics & Reissues Modification Thread

Hey guys, this isn't a Historic/Reissue but it's gotten similar treatment! Just adding my bit

Guitar - 2001 Gibson Les Paul Classic

Tuners/Tips - ElectricMojo Aged Grovers

TRC - Historic Style TRC from eBay "Philadelphia Supply"

Nut - TUSQ XL

Inlays - Stock

Fretboard - Stock

Switch Ring (aka.. Poker Chip) - Montreux Aged

Switch Tip - Fake58 Round Tip

Switch Nut - Fake58

Pickup Rings - Vintage Clone Aged

Pickups (and Covers) - WolfeTone Dr. Vintage

Pickguard - MojoAxe

Pickguard Bracket - Stock

Bridge (posts, and thumbwheels) - Faber No Wire ABR

Tailpiece - Faber Lightweight Alu.

Tailpiece Studs - Stock

Knobs - Gold Bell Knobs from eBay "Philadelphia Supply" (not quite vintage but better color than Gibson stock I believe)

Pointers (knob) - Stock

Jackplate - Fake58

Pots - JonesyBlues

Caps - JonesyBlues

Backplates - Stock

Refinished - No (sun faded )

Other Mods - None

Future Mods - Maybe Inlays , maybe knobs

I Made The Mods To My Guitar Because - As a member on here once said, Once you start it's a slippery slope. I LOVE the way Vintage Pauls look, and dislike the modern Gibson Fleshy toned stuff.

Hanging out with her Sisters:

Thanks!

InfiniteeZ, I think it came out great... ! I think the knobs look nice, but the inlays may be something you should consider changing to really get the overall look.... . That's my $0.02... .

Thanks a ton Barker! I appreciate that!

I completely agree, everytime I glance at it everything looks great but those inlays! I truly want to change them for some Retrospec ones, just gotta summon the courage to do so!

I've asked a couple luthiers how much they'd charge for an inlay swap, and have gotten prices that made me want to just give it a shot myself and learn how to do it!

I'm seriously considering it now though, I've seen a couple threads here that made it look not as daunting a task as I had originally seen it. The moist rag and soldering iron seem like the path I'm heading!!

I'll do the poker chip at some point, but that's all I have planned right now. I'm waiting on parts to come in to do rings, covers and pickguard on 2 other guitars soon. Those are the 3 things that really stick out to me on historics.

Re: The Official Historics & Reissues Modification Thread

Guitar - 2007 G0

Tuners/Tips - Grover. Used StewMac tool, it's idiot-proof.

TRC - Stock but want a rolled one at some point

Nut - Stock, want a new one

Inlays - Stock

Fretboard - Stock

Switch Ring (aka.. Poker Chip) - Stock

Switch Tip - Stock

Switch Nut - Stock but want a Fat Boy or Retrospec one

Pickup Rings - Stock but would love some GY or OTPG

Pickups (and Covers) - Throbak MXV SLE 101

Pickguard - Stock but should get one from AVH

Pickguard Bracket - Stock

Bridge (posts, and thumbwheels) - Callaham

Tailpiece - Pigtail from BCRGreg

Tailpiece Studs - Retrospec

Knobs - Stock

Pointers (knob) - Jonesy aged

Jackplate - Stock

Pots - Tone, Jonesy. Volume RS Superpots

Caps - Vit Q, Jonesy

Backplates - Stock

Refinished - No

Other Mods - Practice

Future Mods - I'd love to swap out some of the plastics but cash is tight and I haven't found a way to convince myself it would improve tone.

I Made The Mods To My Guitar Because -[/B] Hated how the burstbuckers sounded. Callaham improved sustain but did sweeten tone a little. Pigtail was very subtle compared to Callaham. Stock tailpiece studs/bushings were horribly out of tolerance* and honestly can't be compared to Retrospec's product.

* Literally flopped around without tension applied.

Re: The Official Historics & Reissues Modification Thread

Here's my R4 from 2008, shown in this video in direct "comparison" with a 1956 vintage original gold top. My R4 had most functional parts changed with vintage original parts from the early 50's, as described in the video, while all cosmetics such as pick-guard, switch tip and ring, knobs, etc are still stock. The stop bar is fixed with TonePros locking studs, that's the only "modernistic" feature that I wanted to adopt. Recently, after the video was shot, I had a vintage repro 4/6 nylon nut installed, which determined further considerable improvement in tuning stability, playability and sound. This recent mod made me finally happy and satisfied with this guitar. I might consider to install original vintage pots in the future and maybe a Pigtail wraparound bridge. Of course the awesome original vintage 1956 gold top is only shown as a benchmark, no actual "challenge" was intended... Thanks to my friend Gianni for lending me his jewel!
